Dell pricing question

I’m in Canada. I’ve been lurking on the Dell Canada website for a few months now waiting for a good deal to appear on a laptop. Also, I’ve been on the look out for coupons. However, I have discovered all the good coupons are only for American customers. Yesterday, I decided to price out my Inspirion 6000d, using a coupon, on the Dell USA site. The exact same computer cost $1700 (cdn) on Dell USA, compared to $2400 on Dell.ca.

Why is Dell.ca selling laptops for $700 more than in the States?

If I buy the American Dell, will my 3-year warranty transfer to a Canadian address?

Might it have something to do with the conversion rate?

I bought my digital camera from the States a while back (when prices were still quite disparate), and absolutely had to buy a 3rd party warranty, as I wasn’t covered under the U.S. warranty. (this is something many digital camera websites mentioned, though I can’t find any right now).

This would be something that I would absolutely send a letter to Dell regarding - unless someone here works at Dell’s headquarters, I think you’ll just get speculation.

Incidentally, check with your company to see if they have a contract with Dell or another company. When I did technical support for a large company, I could get a code to get 10% off Dell PCs.

Also, Dell has different prices depending on whether you’re looking at the home office site vs. the small business site vs. the large business site.

I feel like I’m missing something? When I did a quick check for the 6000d, it’s only 1549? Plus tax of course…

Before conversion it was $1400 (US). That is $1700 (Cdn) afterwards.

Daizy the base model is indeed $1599. However, after upgrading the monitor, video card, and adding a 3-year warranty, the price is just over $2400 (Cdn).

Well, see?! That just makes sense! :smack:

Sorry for muddying the waters.

Might it have something to do with the fact that Dell Canada’s computers are manufactured in the US?

Do you get the online flyers from Dell.ca? Sometimes there are deals to be found. As well, rebates are sometimes available if you actually speak to a rep instead of ordering online. Just keep in mind that if you purchase through Dell Finance, they won’t honour your rebates, regardless of what their sales people tell you.
