Demanding cites for things that would take you 2 second to look up is lazy

I don’t have a stake in this debate one way or another, but I do this at least dozen times a day. Whether it’s to find a city or look up a name or find a product, I think “highlight and search” is one of the great tools of the internet

Didn’t know about that trick!

I prefer desktop if I’m going to make an in-depth heavily cited post or need to organize my thoughts. If it’s general rants, IMHO and such I can do that on my phone.

I may need to remove the app from the phone though because I use it too much.

Only some browsers have it as a right-click item. But for sure it’s not very hard to achieve the same outcome manually.

All right! Liz Phair sure can make up a mess of fun on her good days. My favorite “cover” of that melody is by Bob Marley:

ARRRGGH! Beat me to it!

Having lived outside of the States for a majority of my life, and most of that without access to American TV, I assume that I’m not going to get most cultural references. I pretty much skip Cafe Society and Game Room because of that. Likewise, the vast majority of the people here would not be able to related to my life.

I saw that thread in question, and skipped it because I had no idea who the guy is, so I would have no idea how someone like that talks.

However, I knew what TPing is because it was a thing when I was in high school 45+ years ago. I don’t get the complaint about no knowing what TPing a house is. If you’ve never heard of TPing, then you can’t meaningfully participate.

Half of Game Room is video games, many from Japan. Just saying,

Have at!!

As a dinosaur who doesn’t play video games or watch much anime, you can quickly find millions of people who have greater knowledge of these things than me.

The only knowledge I have is from students who play / watch.

Heh. My husband provides therapy for kids and adolescents so he frequently encounters things the kids are doing these days.

The other day one of his clients mentioned Chappel Roan and she was like, “you probably never heard of her.”

He’s like, “Are you going to the Pink Pony Club?” And started doing the hand signals H-O-T-T-O-G-O" and she just lost it.

I knew all the moves to Pen Pineapple Apple Pen, as well.

Generation X, and I have (had) no idea who Grimlock is and I’ve never seen an episode of Punky Brewster. I only know about Skeletor because of the boy I used to babysit was a big fan. Now that I’ve looked up Grimlock, I wonder why you didn’t mention Optimus Prime, who’s the bigger name.

Big four networks in the US. When it started, I was still living in the US, and never watched it.

A few years later I moved to Switzerland and lost all access to mainstream US television and ended up watching repeats of BBC shows. To watch the final seasons of Friends, we had to buy DVDs, same as other series that we had started watching in the US.

The first time I saw an episode of Dr. House was on an international flight, so it was probably years after it first aired in 2004.

With streaming, it’s much easier for me to see the same shows as my friends in the US. But there’s also so many shows to watch, and there’s other things to do.

I see the name Boomhauer, I don’t click. I have no idea who they are. Even with the name of the show, I still don’t click, but now I know it’s part of a show that I have never seen.

Tempted, but not worth it. I suspect your reaction would be close to Bre’r Rabbit’s reaction after being thrown in the briar patch.

Or don’t remember lyrics from a mid-show cartoon from more than 40 years ago.

For obscure references, I bring you J.P. Patches, which is about the time I learned about Banana Splits, Great Space Coaster and Gary Gnu (G-nu), with a sidedish of Starblazers.

Oddly enough, I used to talk about Star Blazers and La Linea with my Italian coworker. The first show is translated from Japanese, so it is neither American or Italian. The second one is Italian, but the language is also nonsensical in Italian. Shared culture sometimes transcends borders.

Sorta like the trope of the uptight librarian with the hair in a bun and the cat-eye glasses. Until she pulls off the glasses and shakes out her bun and suddenly va-va-va-voom!

But the jerk-guy version? Yeah, that might be what happens.

Didn’t think a non-King of the Hill fan would be interested in my post…

Grimlock is cooler. You’re comparing a semi truck to a tyrannosaurus rex.

Personally, my favorite Dinobot was Slug, the triceratops. I had that figure as a kid and I’m so sad I don’t anymore.

Ooh, holy crap, there is a of Slug as a plush toy (in dinosaur form). Dammit, now I want that.

I just wanted to mention that it is the most SDMB thing ever that this Pit thread has over 5 times the posts of the spawning thread.

'Tis a silly place.

Being the Pit, where drift is allowed with few exceptions, threads tend to grow like an untended garden that is never pruned.

At the time, I liked Optimus Prime. Or at least, the kid I babysat did, and had a model of Optimus Prime. Maybe he had Grimlock as well, but Grimlock didn’t leave any impression.

Slug’s adorable. Not that expensive, either.

Or never weeded.

The Pit: what the rest of the internet is, and the rest of the SDMB would be, if all the Mods went on strike and stayed on strike.

Which is not to say the Pit mods don’t do great work here.

Speaking of expensive

At a more sane price point, three or four years ago my local surplus food store got several pallets full of “blind box” packages of five Hershey Kisses and a roughly 1 inch Transformer. I looked them up and they originally retailed for $3.99 each, but the surplus store was selling them five for $1.00. I bought a few dollars worth every time I went until they ran out ($1.00 for 25 Hershey’s kisses isn’t bad, ignoring the toy.) For the five figures in the set, out of all the dozens of Transformers to choose from, they picked Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Starscream, and Grimlock. Which should say something about the character/figure’s popularity. (I still have a cookie tin full of them.
