Well, for instance, it occurred to me that someone who is under 18 could claim to be a voter. I also wondered if people told the truth about their incomes, or even their race. Maybe they’re no less dishonest than with live polls, but there are at least a few things where it would be more difficult to lie to a live pollster (if you’re a 10 year old claiming to be 50, for instance).
I guess the Rasmussen poll is respected as fairly legitimate, though, so it must have some demonstrable level of reliability, I suppose.
If I’d ever been to a sermon I could mine it for fire and brimstone imagery illustrating god’s wrathful vengeance on the iniquity and tyranny of evil men. Or just point out that a political party that considers Evangelicals their base may take note of no biblical floods washing down in Denver.
Focus On the Family had posted a video on it’s website asking people to pray for God to make it rain during Obama’s speech tonight. The fact that the RNC could end up playing 2nd fiddle to a major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico next week is ironic and might even be humorous if it wasn’t so not-funny.
Someone should write a blog entry or email a pundit with this…it would be a great sound bite for the fundies to hear on their TV late at night {{Biblical Flood predicted for Obama strikes McCain and the Republican Convention - precursor of things to come}}
I’m aware. I was thinking more about Katrina and them having to deal with this again. Admittedly I didn’t really think about the fact that there were some folks claiming quite earnestly that Katrina was proof that God did hate New Orleans.
Yeah, really. “The Republicans can’t get a break?” How about New Orleans can’t get a break. I think that statement really shows us some insight into how Rove thinks.
Rove is thrilled. Mother Nature has handed him a legitimate excuse to keep the Albatross-in-Chief as far away form McCain as possible during his nomination.
But isn’t the 'cane supposed to make landfall on tuesday? Bush and Cheney are supposed to make some quick and dirty appearances on monday and the Pubs are hoping the stink will be gone before McCain speaks on thursday.
I guess tuesday is close enough they could use it as an excuse not to bring in the lepers on monday, though, I guess.
But that would require that Bush actually wake up and go to work. Or “work”, more accurately. This is the guy who was watching beach volleyball while Russia was invading Georgia…I think he has a case of short-timer’s syndrome.
Look, I’m far from Bush’s biggest fan, but what the hell was he supposed to do about it?
Any mistakes that were made (and I think there were plenty - by the US, NATO, and Georgia) were well past the point of possible mitigation by the time Russia invaded.
Sorry about the hijack. If you want to talk about it more, let me know and I’ll fire up a separate thread.
You’re absolutely right; I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take a cheap shot. But I do think Bush is past the point where he’s even interested in making an empty display of caring.
I’m worried. Yesterday Obama released a statement saying his speech would be “workmanlike”. I’m sure that was to knock down expectations. I know that Barack can give one hell of a speech. I’ve seen it more than once.
But will this speech be better than the one on race. The ‘Yes We Can’ speech? This really, really looooong build-up?
