You’re right, of course, but what I suspect it was was a half-arsed plan that was doomed to failure the moment it started, by a small group of drunken idiots who thought they were a lot smarter than they actually were.
ETA: IOW, regardless of how long they planned it, they never had a prayer.

The plot thinnens:
Jim Leach was able to sum up in one paragraph why I plan to vote for Obama. Understand that my politics lean left socially and lean right fiscally - more libertarian than either Democrat or Republican.
I would agree that his substance was better than style, but regardless, this one paragraph better sums up my support for Obama than anything else. I might have added, “the party that tells us that they want less federal government are also hellbent on stacking the Supreme Court with individuals that would assert the government’s judgement over women and their doctors.” Or something to that effect. I dont think Stevens will make it another four years.
That paragraph needs to be the talking points for the Democrats during the debates.
Hurricane Gustav formed in the Caribbean yesterday, and is now pounding Haiti. Current computer models suggest it will move into the Gulf and gain strength, perhaps gaining to Category 3 strength or more. The current path predictions are eerily close to having it come ashore close to New Orleans - probably sometime around next Monday evening.
See the National Hurricane Center for more details www.nhc.noaa.gov.

Whew! That was close. A week earlier, and Gustav would have disrupted the media coverage of the Democratic National Convention.

Is Rahm Emanuel muslim? He really nailed Bush and Bush III. I have a feeling there are many on the right who won’t like that at all.

Jewish. And gorgeous. Well, if you’re old, female, straight, and share my taste.

I’m most definitely 3 of those things and I agree he is not hard on the eyes.
His being Jewish won’t send some of the more right righties into a froth but that lady with the thick Spanish accent? I don’t think the anti-immigrationist will appreciate that at all.
Mark Warner was decent, but not an Obama or Ann Richards keynote speech.
Looks like they’re still having technical problems. Ted Strickland was heard saying, “Where’s my speech?” Someone handed him a paper copy a few seconds later.
I’m watching on C-span, but I"m guessing that probably wasn’t picked up by the other networks as they probably cut to commercials right after the keynote.
I liked Warner’s speech. It doesn’t bear close scrutiny, but what convention speech does. He came off as a thoughtful man concerned about his country and convinced Obama would do the best job leading it.
Warner is the man I hoped the Democrats would run, but that idea was squashed before the primaries began.
Casey got them going a little bit with the “four more months” thing, but it’s been a lackluster night over all. Hillary needs to go out there and burn that place down.
I think she also needs to kick McCain in the balls tonight. I’m starting to get sick of his bullshit.
