Democratic convention 2008 discussion thread

I suppose there are a few nimrods that keep two high-powered scoped rifles, ammunition, sighting scopes, radios, a bulletproof vest, wigs, drugs and fake IDs in their truck as a matter of course but it seems like more than just bragging from an idiot.

You’re right, of course, but what I suspect it was was a half-arsed plan that was doomed to failure the moment it started, by a small group of drunken idiots who thought they were a lot smarter than they actually were.

ETA: IOW, regardless of how long they planned it, they never had a prayer.

ETAA: From what I understand, there are plenty of those on any president every year.

And I hope you’re right in each and everyone of those opinions.

Truth is, as someone already said upthread, I wince almost every time I see Obama ‘speechifying’ in any open venue in front of a large crowd.

Meanwhile, James Carville is bashing his own party to the media:

Couldn’t they do this kind of infighting behind closed doors? I have to wonder if Carville is still working for the Clintons.

There is reason to doubt?

James Carville is an idiot. The convention was done well last night. We’ve had 3 weeks of feel good stories from the Olympics. To start the convention off with smash mouth politics would have been the wrong approach. There’s time enough for Bush Bashing. I’m ready for a noun, a verb, and POW.

Carville’s been sleeping with the enemy too long. I have serious doubts of his loyalty to anything but his bottom line.

God, the press is trying so hard to manufacture a controversy here, and I am so tired of it.

How quickly he forgets

I don’t think the B&H are behind Carville’s asshattery. I think he’s been an Asshat all on his own.

I have to wonder who actually hates Obama more in that household…

Seriously. Carville and Begala were so close to having plum administration positions of influence again they could practically taste it, then Obama had to come along and CLANG that door shut so fast they almost got their tongues caught in the hinges. And they’ve been paying revenge back in their media commentator positions ever since.

carville is starting to look more and more like lord voldemort.

i do find him easier to take than coulter, i don’t think he takes himself as seriously.

It’s bad news for the media if Obama coasts into November with a 20 point lead. They’re going to do everything they can to make it close, or at least appear close.

I have to admit that I found the media (specifically, ABC) coverage of Kennedy a bit over the top. He’s certainly a significant figure in the Senate, and the occasion was very emotional. But the hagiography was downright embarassing (and I say this as a lifelong liberal Democrat). He is, after all, a politician; and a significant number of Americans loathe him and everything he stands for.

But then I remembered Reagan’s funeral.

So the media may be embarrassing and overblown, but at least they’re balanced.

I put Carville and Coulter in the same boat. I think they were bound souls split at birth or something…Also, what Coulter lacks in emotion/conscience Carville picks up in sense of humor, but they are still both pricks.

At least we won’t see, “I’m Barack Obama and I’m reporting for duty!”

Not at you, dalej42, but at Kerry.

What an embarassment, huh?

We’ll see what happens. There’s a group of protesters behind the MSNBC stage that is getting really annoying. What a bunch of losers.

And by the way, Hillary, if anything goes bad it’s all on you. That’s what you get for doing your best to de-legitimize the presumptive nominee. I think she is probably regrets her role as a spoiler if it comes out like that.

By the way, who are these assholes protesting Hardball? I guess their coverage could be better, but really it just pisses me off that they are there being disruptive. I think I saw a 9/11 truth sign there. Not surprised.

I can’t wait until this is over so we can forget about the Clintons and their intense need to be coddled. Yeah, Bill was a good president. I think the multi-million dollar speaking arrangements ought to be consolation enough. He’s essentially trying to make us feel like he’s Ted Kennedy when he hasn’t done a whole lot to deserve it.

Just turned to Hardball. Uh, don’t those protesters need to find a Starbucks window to smash.

I discovered that if you watch it on PBS rather than MSNBC, you don’t have to put up with most of the asshattery. But the PBS coverage doesn’t begin until Prime Time.

Doesn’t C-SPAN do gavel-to-gavel without annoying talking heads?
