Democratic governments are the only thing that prevent us from calling the likes of Trump and Musk 'Your Majesty' ? Biblical musings

After hearing about how the ultra rich live (from hearsay, a former financial advisor to one of them), it appears that they, practically speaking, have no laws or restrictions. For instance crossing international boundaries are a non-issue and they don’t even need passports or go though customs. It was also expresses that they feel justified and actually doing the right thing by not paying taxes as they consider what they do to be better for society, and consider the government as wasteful and inefficient.

This also has me think of the biblical giants/Son’s of God and their nephilum children of Gen 6 who was said will be back again after the flood and that description fit them well. I do wonder if these are the giants, and it is our democratic government which is in conflict with their ambitions to rule, but also are they truly for this time actually above human law in a ‘divine right’ sort of thing.

For reference: Gen 6: When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God (or giants) saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.”

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

This also seems to come together in the book of Daniel where the last kingdom before God’s Kingdom is of iron and clay, while humans are described as clay in other places. So a combo of a ruling ‘iron’ class and humans.

I know lots of posters here don’t want to go into the biblical part and that’s fine, it is my way to help analysis thing, not yours, if you just want to comment about the first part, is our government basically standing in the way of the ultra rich being literally our kings, and that is causing a conflict between the 2, like currently Musk trying to discredit the government and have people depend on him for their right of free speech instead I would appreciate it.

A slight hijack, if I may: are any of these heroes or men of renown named in the Bible? Was Goliath one of them?

And I’d argue our government partly helps them be kingly by giving them the opportunity to use their wealth to influence without having to actually do any of the work of ruling.

It’s hard to tell, though the term ‘mighty men’ may identify them such as the use in Ezekiel 38:18,20

  • You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as if they were rams and lambs, goats and bulls—all of them fattened animals from Bashan."…
. At my table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, mighty men and soldiers of every kind,’ declares the Sovereign Lord.

And their hybrid children were mentioned in Num 13:33:

  • We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim ). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”

Other than that we are going further into speculative possibilities. For myself I don’t consider Goliath as a nephilum but I’m not opposed to that idea either.

My own views on this is more that our freedoms stem from the struggle of power between the ruling classes. The more the rulers cooperate the less freedoms we have, but each ruler likes to protect their turf, so the rulers are set up against each other in the design of our government which allows us greater freedoms.

I see no debate, great or small. In fact I don’t even see a question. This appears to be more of a Blog post.

The SDMB is not a Blog. I am closing this thread.
