Most Communist party members in history were under single party dictatorship brands of communism. As a non-communist, I do not get to say that the peaceful idealistic non-cynical party members are more real communists than Stalin and Mao and Xi and the party members in their societies. I look at most communists to see what communism is about.
There are about 100 million communists in China today. Self-proclaimed communists in non-communist societies are a small and highly atypical group.
This is highly relevant to the thread! Harris is not a communist. Unlike most historical and current communists, she is no CP member and totally accepts a multi-party state with limited government. Thr Democratic Party is not a communist party.

True communism’s been tried all over the place, and works just fine – in small groups. Any healthy family works that way.
It doesn’t appear to work in groups of humans larger than maybe a couple hundred people. It turns into totalitarianism.
I think if I said this to one of them they’d say “With the help of Western forces.”
