Democratic National Convention August 19-22 2024

So will Kamala have to do it backwards, in high heels?

[In case that’s too obscure:]

“Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backward and in high heels.” – Ann Richards

I didn’t read your message before I replied. So… we good, (I hope).

Back on topic.

I love the energy! I hope things continue this way…

Stay off the communism discussion in this thread and we’re fine.

This is so much better than “When they go low, we go high.” As she said, as she got the the audience into a call-and-response, “Put down that phone and do something!

It was mentioned by a talking head before tonight’s proceedings started, that that was the kind of thing that she should be saying. Going high didn’t work in 2016; if the Republicans want to wrestle in the mud, well it’s time for the Democrats to wrestle them in the mud.

Do something!

And here comes Barack Obama.

Man, those two are just Democratic dynamite. It’s nice to see them back on the stage.

“Billy, what do you want to be when you grow up?”

“I want to be a speaker like Obama.”

Damn, I’ve heard some great speakers in my day, and Obama’s got to be in the top three, at least.

Man, every time I see him speak, I’m reminded how much I miss Obama.

Burn!

Me, too. But he’s a once-in-a-lifetime gift, and if you measure all future politicians against him, you will be perpetually disappointed.

This convention has demonstrated we have a embarrassment of riches waiting in the wings. We’d be smart to nurture and help them along every way we can.

Ha! He almost went into “Trump concertina” mode, realized what he was doing, looked a little embarrassed, and got a great laugh.

“Trump’s obsession with crowd sizes…”

As Obama holds his hands with palms facing close then apart then close.

Ninja’d!

We’ve already seen that movie. And we know the sequel is always worse.

 :joy:

Indeed! Part of that feeling I get when I see him speak is just nostalgia for that specific time. I’m truly excited for the people the Dems have on the national stage-- Harris, Walz, Shapiro, AOC, Warnock, Whitmer, Pritzker,

There were a couple of youngsters who came on stage quite early and spoke briefly who reminded me a lot of Obama: Same command of speech, very gifted. I wish I’d caught their names.

It still looks the same as it always did, but that’s because unlike Dorian, she’s been a saint.

So Obama just hit on something that I find extremely appealing about the ticket. And I didn’t even realize it. When he just compared Walz and Harris one after the other I realized it’s “real america.” I love watching Kamala Harris and Tim Walz interact. Two people who couldn’t look or act or talk more differently. Completely different backgrounds completely different life experiences. But when they come together they’re both americans. And they both recognize the other as being that. I love that message.

“I notice now that it’s popular, they don’t call it Obamacare anymore.”

“Yes, she can.”

I just saw this on Reddit (no story, just a pic and user comments):

I think some of the top comments are right that he will interview people and edit a mashup to make the people there look stupid (as has been done by dems as well as other “on-the-street” interviews).

They should have someone follow him everywhere (politely) and whenever Walsh tries to interview someone the person following him will inform the person of who Walsh is and consider whether they still want to be interviewed.

He actually said, “I notice now that it’s popular, they don’t call it Obamacare no mo’.”
