Democratic National Convention August 19-22 2024

I’m good with that. If it turns into a watchalong thread, well, that’s fine. As you note, it’s only four days. I seem to recall that the many days of the January 6 Committee made for a very long thread. At four days, even if this thread becomes a watchalong, it should still be manageable.

Damn. I hope I look as good as Tony Goldwyn when I’m 64.

I guarantee you, if we try to do a day-by-day, you’ll have people posting in the wrong threads. Easier to manage just one.

Shawn Fain just took the podium. This should be good. He’s a great speaker.

I love the guy. He puts a lump in my throat every time he speaks. What a treasure he is!

Yeah. I never heard of the guy (I mean, I have heard of the UAW, and knew that it would have a president), but he is one helluva speaker. “Trump’s a scab!”

AOC is on fire.

I haven’t seen her speak publicly in a situation like this before.

Maybe I’m an idiot. But she’s killing it tonight.

He’s galvanized union membership across the country. I’m super impressed with the guy.

Years ago, I organized my cow-orkers to adopt SEIU (Teamsters affiliated union) as a replacement for the local employee’s association that represented us at the time. The local employee’s association did fine until the voters made changes to our status as civil servants, and we needed to up our game. SEIU got it done.

I thought Steve Kerr was good.

Yet I really wish AOC had included the small business owners in with the working people. Trump conned them away from the Dems, but in reality they mostly work to pay the banks, not themselves.

Teamsters president Sean O’Brien is in the bag for Trump. Fain is Prez of the United Auto Workers.

I’m aware. But support for O’Brien is slipping away from him among his members. They’re openly defying him. It’s a case of a bad leader, not a bad idea.

I think @Aspenglow is pointing out the good that unions can do, but I’ll let her clarify that.

All the speakers so far have been good. AOC let loose with both barrels. That room is electric.

Wow. He got nearly a solid minute of Tube Time. Really worth getting dressed up, Jason!

Here we go with Hillary Clinton …

Yes, Steve Kerr was excellent.

I missed the Union guy. I need to catch that later. Hillary Clinton was well received-but there more things to lead with without making it a female focus. Progress and vision focus.

edit “protect against foreign and Domestic terrorists” Well done roast.

LOL, there’s a Hillary sick burn: “Lock him up!”

What are they chanting?

Okay, the nod and smirk while the crowd chants “Lock him up” will have DJT spinning!!! Spinning!
