At 16 or 17 minutes, it was fairly brief compared to the other nights’ keynotes, but extremely effective. He made his points and he made them well.
Yes! The humility!
A true Servant Leader, to use a phrase that was popular about 10 years ago.
That was f***ing AWESOME! I love this man and his family!
A lot of love for Tim Walz.
“In Minnesota we make sure all kids get breakfast and lunch everyday.”
As someone who got free and reduced lunch for much of my elementary years, this is a big deal to me. This should be the standard across the entire country.
Damn, that was spectacular. I’m so glad he’s on the ticket.
His kids are just picture perfect. His son, not holding back his tears and pride, his daughter, a social worker who works with homeless people. And they all just look so Midwestern wholesome!
Wow! I was worried that a national audience might not like Walz. That speech was perfect. All he needed, and pumped up the crowd for Kamala perfectly.
That has to be the shortest acceptance speech ever. He is so wonderful.
The team introducing him is so heartwarming.
I think Walz is going to deliver a notable number of Undecideds.
That’s my dad! That’s my dad!
The love in that family. Wow.
How long until the pubbieshits start with the “shame the crying son” thing?
My feeling also. “You don’t know who you’re going to vote for? Well, let’s go get a beer and talk about it.” Nice folksy guy who (as I’ve said before) Joe and Jane Average American can relate to. Hell, I’m not even American and I can relate to him.
I don’t think you’re going to get that attitude from Republicans.
The wholesomeness just overflowed. You want to give the Walz’s all one great big hug (and a hot dish).
Give 'em 'til midnight Eastern for the amateurs on Xitter. A little longer for the pros.
Side note – nitpick on the music playlist department:
Team, “Keep on Rockin’ in the Free World” is about people failing to prosper in the Free World. Please tell me y’all chose it to signal that’s who will be your priority.
They may well get those out tomorrow night.
It was like a halftime speech:
Let’s go out there and win one for the future.
That could be a fatal move.
Not only are the tears from both kids and his wife testimony to what a wonderful father/husband and all around great guy Walz is, his son Gus has a non-verbal learning disorder.
Anyone who wants to shame Gus for his emotional display will get a ton of hurt raining down on them from Walz, his wife and pretty much any decent people in this country. They will get crushed is my expectation.
It is not a game they should risk playing.
My take (that nobody asked for)
The speeches are on fire. How are they going to top this tomorrow?
Hakim Jeffries really impressed me
Clinton was great. He’s always been a good, if somewhat longwinded speaker
Oprah was Oprah. She still wields a lot of power.
Moore and Buttigieg were great as expected
The football players wearing their old jerseys was hysterical. I don’t get the football culture but I understand that it is important.
Walz did what a good vice-presidental candidate is supposed to do which is to be the attack dog. I’ve heard most of his standard lines already but I don’t think the majority of viewers have. Good call to include the “turkey’s meat” clip. It’s worth 1000 times Vance saying how much he loves his kids.
Stevie and John Legand! With Sheila E!
And P!nk tomorrow?
Anything that defeats… that guy.
I wasn’t a big fan of all the football references and metaphors. My high school put too much emphasis on sports; if you weren’t on one of the teams, you didn’t get a lot of attention. I was flashing back to an old movie called Gung Ho. Michael Keaton is a popular labor leader who’s in over his head. At the end, he’s been caught out and has to give a speech to the members with some things that they don’t want to hear. He says he should have been honest from the start, but he was telling them stories from his high school basketball championship.
Can I get a quick head count on former Trump/republicans supporters that’re speaking during the convention?
That this was all pulled together in comparatively no time at all is pretty remarkable.
The Dems could maybe learn a lesson about not second-guessing themselves next time around.
“These are the four main talking points. This is the arc of the convention. Go.”
“But–”
“THERE IS NO TIME. GO.”
Normally Dems fret and nitpick and water themselves down. Not this time.
I hope they understand and apply this going forward.
