For those who want to watch without talking heads, I tried to watch the MSNBC stream on YouTube yesterday because I sometimes want to hear the commentary but they just showed the convention straight through without interruption.
I was thinking the same.

Anyway, I’m curious who the surprise guest(s) are tonight. I like the prediction that Anthony Hopkins will show up dressed as Hannibal Lecter to endorse Harris. (Though Hopkins is famously apolitical, so I doubt that.)
Any idea what coverage outside the USA is like? Are other countries encouraged by what they’re seeing?

All I can tell you is that it’s all over the place in Canada because the major US networks are everywhere, plus all the streaming services like YouTube and the CNN.com home page. Also CNN International is widely available around the world.

A Dem pundit on twitter said that it’s “not who we are expecting” (likely meaning Taylor Seift isn’t showing up), and that “the Bay Area should be happy”. Speculation is that it’ll be Steph Curry.

Not to put a damper on the watch party, but I heard news earlier today talking about how a request to feature a Palestinian American speaker was declined. It remains to see how that might impact those seeking an end to Israeli aid (who were represented during the roll call by those votes that were merely “present”)
Meanwhile, let me join those who lament the timing. Eastern time sucks; my 4 years in Mountain time was blissful; live stuff always starts too late.
Oh, and Snoop only praised Trump because, on his way out of office, he granted clemency to the co-founder of Death Row records (something Trump did reluctantly). He was a critic throughout his administration (hence the reluctance).

I think such a speaker would have been a bad mistake. There’s a time and a place for controversial topics on which there are strong and legitimate disagreements, and the DNC convention isn’t it. It’s a place for unity, and the very last place for controversy. You just know Republicans would have shamelessly lied about it and exaggerated the hell out of it.
