According to various social media, there’s a “gray” block of time on the DNC stage schedule tonight (before Harris), which is being interpreted as a mystery guest. The most popular guesses on Twitter? Beyonce and Taylor Swift.
These would be amazing - but I hope it’s George W. Bush.
I regret to say that while I could have done that at 20 I can’t do it now. And I can’t afford to sleep really late four mornings in a row, either. I’ve been up too late with this convention as it is, and I haven’t yet caught any of the main speakers. Though I did catch Gorman; I was about to close the browser when I saw her coming on and changed my mind for a bit.
But then, I don’t watch basketball, football, or very much of the Olympics.
Well that thought might keep me awake for a while –
though if so, it’ll certainly be on the news in the morning!
That would be interesting but he’s been pretty clear that he wants to stay out of the fray.
Swift seems like a good bet.
Hmmm … he, Obama, and Clinton have come together for common cause before. Nowhere near the craziest thing I’ve ever heard contemplated.
It’s hard to believe it would be her, but if it is, I suspect it would be in response to Trump’s falsely claiming she has endorsed him. Would serve him right.

He isn’t liked by anyone on either side enough to balance out those on both sides who have no respect for him. I do think his standing has improved somewhat since 2016 (since Trump is so much worse), but I don’t think the DNC wants him there.
The eleven o’clock news was mentioned by Lawrence O’Donnell last night. He was saying start earlier if needed but get it done by 11.
This is why I believe central is the best time zone. The news is on at 10 and you can watch late night without suffering in the school/work morning.
I cannot speak about Beyonce, but apparently, Bruno Mars was doing a sound check earlier, so he may well be a surprise guest.

As for the special guest, the devil on my shoulder is hoping it’s Ivanka Trump.

I just watched the Walz speech (DVR)…and he was a brilliant choice. Because everything about him screams “Republican”. Hunter, veteran, football coach…even the catchphrase “ Mind your own damn business.”
He’s going to pick off some independent and non-brainwashed Republicans who will look at him and say “My guy!”
A couple of Trumpers I work with were calling out the Ds on their hypocrisy. “Gotta have ID to get into the convention but not to vote!” I’m way outnumbered but tried to reply with something along the lines of “No guns allowed at a those big gatherings of Second Amendment advocates - RNC etc.”. I got talked over and they failed to see the irony. I’m comforted by the fact that my state will never vote for Republican President. I remind them of that from time to time.
