Democratic National Convention August 19-22 2024

I appreciated the crispness of the speeches and how they built on each others’ content. Well-orchestrated.

Interesting Axios item on speakers at the DNC. Not a complete list, but when the big names are scheduled:

Obama is on Tuesday, Bill Clinton is on Wednesday.

Why I stopped watching CNN long ago. They’re Faux Lite now.

Axelrod is trying hard to find things less than great.

I’ll be honest, I completely forgot about the DNC and sat down to watch my trashy reality shows on Max after doing yard work, and Max promoted the DNC on CNN to me, so I clicked on that instead. I’m such a patriot!

The two female hosts were jazzed. Tapper was just a wet blanket.

Barak, 2nd Gentleman Doug Emhoff and JB Pritzker on Tuesday (tomorrow)

Tim Walz, Bill Clinton, Pelosi and Buttigieg on Wednesday

Kamala on Thursday

Fuck him hard with an axle rod.

Watching the convention in real time is the important thing. People are capable of forming their own opinions about its success or failure without the spin of any news commentators.

So yes, you are a patriot!

Harris going to open up double-digit leads on Trump in the polls when this convention is over.

I don’t have a lot of choices here, when it comes to American news. I get the traditional networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) and CNN as part of my cable package. If I want something like MSNBC or even Fox News, I’d have to pay more to subscribe to them. So, it’s pretty much CNN for me.

If you can afford it get MSNBC. So much better.

That’s true for a lot of people. Just something to be aware of. They’ve bent really noticeably to the Right over the past few years. True even for MSNBC, too.

I will say there is going to be a better than normal bump it they continue like this.

Double-digit is fantastical.

Biden specifically acknowledging that he is too old to stay president was quite moving. He really is one of the few presidents in my lifetime to undeniably put his country before himself.

Not for what my cable provider wants for it. We get screwed on telecommunications prices here in Canada. I’m happy with what I’ve got, and as long as CNN didn’t continually interrupt with talking heads’ commentary (and it didn’t), the important thing was that I got to hear the speakers.

The broadcast networks (ABC, NBC and CBS, somewhat in that order but not really) would be better than CNN in my opinion. CBC or BBC too.

CSPAN is my go-to if I just want to watch the event without the commentary.

This whole night was so uplifting. I still have a lump in my throat and a pile of used tissues that I need to throw away.

But the ironic way he said it was kind of charming: “I was too young to be a Senator at 29 and now I’m too old to be President.”

He all but shrugged as if he could have added, “Watcha gonna do?”

PBS covers it, too. How do they do?

Yes he is.
