Dental Question

I have an appointment with a dentist next Monday, so yeah, you are not my dentist, yada yada yada.

Over the past month i’ve noticed something strange with my left front tooth. the bottom millimeter or so of it seems to be translucent. It doesn’t give me any discomfort and as far as i can tell, the thickness of my two front teeth are more or less identical. The tooth looks very very slightly blueish upon inspection of the portion in question, and when i put my tongue up to it, it turns to black.

So whats going on? What is my best mode of protection and care to take with my tooth?

It sounds like a rotten tooth. I had a similar kind of tooth and when my dentist went to drill it, it just shattered. LOL

It wasn’t that bad, and certainly didn’t hurt. He did a root canal and I have a cap and it’s been fine for over 10 years.

It’s probably a tooth that is dead or dying and is in the process of turning color.

If your lucky you may be able to get away with just a cap. But make sure. If it’s gonna need a root canal, get it done. As if you can get away with a cap, it may need a root canal in a few years and you’ll just have to pay for a new cap then. Might as well save the money and get it done all at once.

tooth enamel is translucent. thin spots like the tips of incisors can see light through.
