Has anyone bought the new Depeche Mode CD yet? If so, what did you think? How does it compare to past releases?
Anyone?

I did. I liked it a lot better than Exciter…and I think (now that I’m past my fangirl stage) it’s probably better than Faith and Devotion and Ultra, too. The only unfortunate thing about it is that the two singles (John the Revelator and Precious) seem like retreads of Personal Jesus and that really famous song from Violator. Actually, I could swear Precious is just the first few chords of that “All I ever wanted” song speeded up.
Are you going to go see them in concert? I’ve been so many times that I’m not sure if it’s worth it. My co-worker claims that I can probably go the day of the concert and pick up a ticket for under 20$ if I wait till the show starts. Don’t know about that but I’ve given them enough money over my life so I don’t think I’m going to go the TicketBastard route in any case.
Hmmmm… Songs of Faith and Devotion has some of my favorite DM songs on it (Rush, In Your Room, One Caress). I’ve just stumbled onto their my space page, and your right, John the Relevator and Precious do sound a little familiar, but not off-puttingly so.
I will not be seeing them in concert, though…my wife is coming up on 7 months pregnant. The last time she was preggo was the last DM concert I went to, and there was so much “partaking” going on that we feel its best to skip out this time. Besides, really loud music probably isnt best for the baby!
I’ve had it for about a month now and now that the “new-ness” has worn off, I’d say it’s much better than “Exciter”, at least as good as “Ultra”, and not quite as good as “SOFAD” or “Violator”. I’m not sure if I’m impressed with Dave’s songwriting or not, as from what I understand, he just wrote the lyrics and they’re definitely the weak point of his songs. If anything I’d say that Christian Eigner and Andrew Philpott wrote some great songs. The only song on the album I don’t really like is “I Want It All” … it’s not bad, it’s just boring. Martin’s lead vocal tracks are a little disappointing, too, but the overall mood and strength of the album make up for it.
I’m not sure if “John the Revelator” is actually a single yet … the first was “Precious” and the next is “A Pain that I am Used To” (at least in Europe). Supposedly, according to rumors, the next two singles are “John” and “Nothing’s Impossible”. If I were picking singles, it would be “Precious”, “John”, “Suffer Well”, and “Lillian”.
And I think I speak for Depeche Mode fans everywhere when I say … thank god for heavy drums and stronger arrangements. After “Exciter”, I feared that they wouldn’t ever get that back.
I’m definitely seeing this tour (Chicago, November 29th). In fact, since I don’t know how many more tours they’ve got in them, I broke the freakin’ bank on a ticket broker. I’m still not in the first couple of rows, but I’m not too far back. And it only cost me my first born. Yeah, I’m that big of a fan.
