Deprecating names for city residents (a Jam Eater speaks)

Inspired by this thread. So far as I can tell we haven’t done this before - but I’m sure someone will put me right if we have.

A few examples of insulting names for city residents cropped up in the earlier thread. Surely we can add to them. I’ll start - I’m a Jam Eater. I’m originally from the industrial North West of England - our very own rust belt, almost. As the mines and steelworks closed and unemployment (and poverty, natch) increased, the residents of one town would take to calling residents of the (very similar) town just up the road “Jam Eaters” - because they were so poor that all they could afford to eat was jam (jelly) sandwiches.

A better example might be on the opposite coast where Geordies (Newcastle) and Mackems (Weirside) delight in calling residents of Hartlepool “Monkey hangers”.

According to local folklore, the term originates from an incident in which a monkey was hanged in Hartlepool, England. During the Napoleonic Wars, a French ship of the type chasse marée was wrecked in a storm off the coast of Hartlepool. The only survivor from the ship was a monkey, allegedly dressed in a French army uniform to provide amusement for the crew. On finding the monkey on the beach, some locals decided to hold an impromptu trial; since the monkey was unable to answer their questions and because they had seen neither a monkey nor a Frenchman before, they concluded that the monkey must be a French spy.[2] Being found guilty, the animal was duly sentenced to death and was summarily hanged on the beach.

So - let’s have some more vile insults for residents of cities everywhere - and if it happens to be you that’s being insulted, or if you can provide the background to the insult, so much the better!

Illinoisans refer to Wisconsonians as “Cheese-heads.” They, in turn, call us “Penny-heads.” Neither term is particularly insulting, I guess, but they are intended to be deprecating.

If people from New York are New Yorkers & people from Philadelphia are Philadelphians, then it stands to reason that people from Baltimore are Baltimorons.
