No doubt. I wish I could find it with the search function. Since he is the only one I have conciously decided to never address directly in any forum the reasons for that are easy for me to remember. But I don’t keep a log of posts I might have to use in the future. We are talking about someone who has more than 12000 posts. Searching under Der Trihs in threads about Iraq narrows it down to about 10000. I haven’t been able to come up with a better way to narrow it down but I don’t have time to slog through that many posts while experimenting with a search function under its current limitations.
I’m no fan of Der Trihs <—massive understatement
but, to be fair, he has said that he’s not interested in participating in Pit threads of the kind where people are yelling at him “You’re wrong! And I’d punch you out to prove it if I was there!”, and so far as that goes, I kinda see his point.
True, he also tends to shy away from his Pittings where there are no punch-out threats going on, but he’d have less excuse for it were it not for people like, well, the OP on this occasion.
Did he say that though? He might have, he says some over the top things. But all that’s been quoted in this thread is him saying that he’d like the troops of one side in a war to be killed before they kill the troops of the side he supports. I wouldn’t say it’s a completely pacificist sentiment, but it’s hardly unusual.
The very act of going to war, enlisting and serving, and “supporting the troops” *is *“actively hoping for people’s deaths”. Just the guys on the other side.
Horseshit. **Loach **is a very brave man (behind a keyboard certainly, and quite possibly elsewhere) but personally there are any number of opinions that I wouldn’t openly express in various real life contexts. Life is not some idealistic intellectual playground. Other people have a degree of power over my life and I’m sure most other people’s lives. The reality is that expressing unpopular opinions at the wrong time can cause oneself a great deal of grief, up to an including physical violence. There’s a time and place for everything. Heck the OP himself (has anyone reported him yet?) suggests he would commit violence against another poster due to the latter’s expression of an opinion if it weren’t for geography.
You going to try and bum him to death?
No doubt.
- They speak
- You punch them
- They sue you
- Profit!
Der Trihs is a confusing person, to say the least. I see his responses in Cafe Society, and I really would like to sit down, buy him a Wine Cooler and talk Sci-Fi with him. He seems very knowledgeable and deeply read.
But his “politics”, and the way he chooses to deal with them, are pure trolling. There’s really no other way to describe it. But he’s managed to make some sort of reputation in other areas, and he’s been around long enough that he now gets that “benefit of the doubt” that established posters get. IF someone came in and made the troll posts about the war in Iraq and the US (especially the mlitary) in general as a new poster, they would be banned.
The irony of him not wanting to participate in pit posts due to lying is awesome, due to his own lies, but I do wish folks would stop threatening to “take him behind the woodshed”, as it’s counterproductive, and we’re better than that sort of horseshit anyways.
It’s a little confusing. At one point, the Official Ruling was that you could not wish death on US troops in Iraq, because some Dopers were serving there. I believe this was later either rescinded or ignored, and it is now OK to do so.
I sometimes wish another Doper would post exactly what Der Trihs says about groups it is OK to wish death on - Christians, Republicans, pro-lifers - about groups that are not OK to wish death on - Muslims, practicing homosexuals, gay marriage proponents, atheists - and see how long they lasted before getting banned.
Regards,
Shodan
How many of these other ‘groups’ are dedicated to the art of death-dealing though? ‘What goes around, comes around.’, ‘You get back what you dish out’, ‘Live by the sword, die by it’ and all that merry horse-shit.
Abortionists.
Hmmm… I suppose so, if you consider existence within a cocoon of flesh with no idea what or where you are, as “living”.
Princhester, I wasn’t accusing Loach of trolling, I was saying that if Der Trihs actually did say what was attributed to him, then that would be trolling.
Oh for Christ’s sake!
Trihs is an immature basement-dwelling 40 year old virgin (Yes, he’s really 40, and yes, I would bet money that he’s never kissed a girl let alone show one his lightsaber.), whose closest brush with anything resembling reality is when one of the sci-fi books he whacks off to happens to mention Planet Earth. He’s an idiot, who personifies the whackjob left.
You are a fucking knuckledragging redneck neanderthal who threatens to beat people up on the Internet. So you’re an idiot too, one who personifies the pick-up truck Freeper crowd.
So just let it go. Trihs is only a threat when you take him seriously. Just remind yourself that you lost your virginity in your teens, and you’ll feel a whole lot better. Anyway, if you saw him, would you really want to beat him up. Ask yourself if he comes off as a firebrand on the ramparts of left-wing democracy or if he comes off like a pathetic aspy case who reads a lot of sci-fi. I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t exactly inspire violence in me.
Oh, and by the way, Trihs isn’t “interesting.” I run into those “interesting” people whenever I find myself in Central Square and wind up shoulder to shoulder with the human wreckage of the Greater Boston Area. Also, his views aren’t challenging either. It’s just that the rest of us can’t quite get there because we’re hampered by reality.
Let him go. He’s his own worst punishment.
Is that job still available?
Seeing as how most of the Trihs’s of the world, whether on the left or the right, stick to whining on the Internet rather than doing anything useful, I’d say the ramparts are actively recruiting for either side. They’ve been feeling pretty fucking lonely and neglected lately. Someone should at least give them a call. It would cheer them right up.
And because they do, you don’t have to…necessarily.
Trihs has this utterly bizarre combination of radicalism and pacifism. He hates the government, he hates authority, but he doesn’t believe individual people should be allowed to arm themselves. In numerous threads about guns, when I bring up the issue of self-defense, he basically says that people shouldn’t be allowed to defend themselves. A weird position for someone who otherwise seems like such a rabble-rouser and a firebrand.
I think if Der Trihs had a criminal break into his house, he’d probably offer to let the guy rape his wife instead of fighting back. Hell, he’d probably lick the guy’s ass clean while he’s pokin’ her.
A wife? Let’s get real.
You mean to tell me this thread got all the way to #38 without anyone even mentioning the utterly crucial and central issue of “gun stuff”? How is it possible that an issue which is at the very forefront of all right-thinking Americans agenda had gone unmentioned, when gun-grabbers stand second only to Cognitive Dissonance as the most urgent threat to the Republic?
I am sure we are all grateful that Argent is ever alert to draw us away from such trivial matters as war and foreign policy to focus our attention on the issues of real significance!
