Bullshit! If they refused to fight then the Gov’t would have to consider the Draft. Exactly how long do you think the American people would put up with this bullshit if there was a draft?
Also, it is quite probable that their willingness to go fight has increased our chances of being killed by some disgruntled terrorist who is fighting back the only way he can. I say this fully aware of my own culpability for having served in Iraq myself. Something I feel a great amount of shame for. In my defense I joined the military before Iraq was an issue.
To be fair, don’t we all? Would you walk up to someone and call them a fucking piece of rotting llama shit to their face, because they annoyed you in real life? Probably not. Yet, most of us do here. I don’t consider that trolling, or cowardly. Just the difference between the internet and RL. They aren’t the same.
(Which is why the whole, “but so and so is so nice in REAL LIFE!” defense here. I don’t give a shit – it’s how you behave here that I see.)
I’m talking about those who enlisted, not those who enlisted during (or specifically for) the Iraq war. There are plenty of members in the military who, like yourself, enlisted outside the scope of Iraq. Xan’s statement was rather vague and seemed rather, well, blanket.
Regardless of when or why members enlist, they don’t necessarily have the luxury of choosing when and where they fight. You know this first hand. You chose to fight even though it despise you because, seemingly, you favored that over the aternative.
What I was trying to get at was not “gun stuff” but the fact that those type of threads specifically showcase DT’s bizarre, seemingly-contradictory political stance. As I already said, on the one hand he affects this revolutionary, “fight the power” activist persona, and then on the other hand he has this aversion to the idea of anyone actually being able to fight for themselves.
It’s impossible to figure out exactly where this guy stands. Everything he puts forth is a confusing mixture of high-school-level anti-authority and anti-America cliches, and self-important arrogance. He is more like a Tom Wolfe caricature of a radical activist than a real person.
The Tom Wolfe caricature is a real person, I’ve met him dozens of times. What’s that Disraeli line, about how he could deal quite effectively with his political enemies, but his allies were sure to be the death of him?
“Oh, goody, this asshole speaks for an hour, and then somebody’s going to read 50 pages of Maya Angelou. Anybody got any drugs? No, I don’t much care what kind…”
Is there a post of the day contest on this board? 'Cause I want to nominate this one. Bravo. I’m as much against gun control as Argent, but this was still a wonderful post.
I’m in Cali too, and I don’t fit whatever generality you’re trying to make. I’m former Army, have worked in the defense industry, etc etc etc. So no, not all of us “California nuts” fit your view. There are also some of us that you would not want to take behind the woodshed. I don’t think it would end the way you think it would.
SteveG1:(Inhale) Dude . . . so, like . . . those tiny fucking packs of peanuts they throw at you in the plane. What the fuck, right?
bump:(Cough, cough) Whoa, sorry man, could you say that again? Kinda distracted here. Weren’t we supposed to do something back here or something? Fucking third class flights, man . . .
THE END
–Linty Fresh, who can’t fucking wait to get back to California. I love that place.
It would be interesting, with quotes and links and “all that stuff”. I think I’ve seen him make that sort of comment but I’m not absolutely sure and I just can’t be bothered to go looking for them.
No offense, since I generally respect you, but this kind of a request for a cite is a waste of time. Water is wet. The Pope wears a funny hat. Der Trihs hates everybody, but Christians, Republicans, pro-lifers, and his father most of all.
Then he would offer both cheeks, 'cause I bet what he really wants is to get pounded by a big rapist. Ha ha - he probably doesn’t even like girls. He wants to engage in deviant activities! Ha Ha! Lol!
Brother Trihs is a special kind of irritant, being that we are ostensibly on the same “side” on issues like the Iraq invasion, which I agree was a colossal fuck-up of an already bad idea. Whether he’s truly incapable of distinguishing real life from a… let’s say “graphic novel”… or just spews his bile for its time-tested shock value, I neither know nor care. I do suspect that it gives him a tingle in his little winky whenever one of these threads pops up, though, which occurs with reliable frequency.
Some defend him for having a “point”— which is sometimes the case, but he enjoys burying it beneath a mound of excrement. My personal cost-benefit analysis has concluded that it’s no longer worth rooting around in there, but the more adventurous of you are encouraged to keep diving in.
I live in California, too, and I don’t necessarily agree with Der Trihs. More importantly, I don’t have a woodshed, but the OP is welcome to build one in my backyard. I’d pay minimum wage. And in my backyard, I don’t think it would end the way OP thinks it would either.
