Luckily, this is not the “We’re going to try to housebreak and properly socialize you” board. It is incumbent upon adults to build their own interests and modulate their own tone. I don’t want a bunch of nannymods trying to teach posters to be better-adjusted adults, I want mods who enforce rules that grownups are expected to follow.
That’s how mswas went out.
I was curious about that too. A moderator says the decision was made to suspend DT before any of the last two moderators got here. If so, why post the last post as supposedly a reason to help justify him having to be suspended? It makes the moderation seem heavy handed, and they just threw the last one in like it was the final straw, when in fact, their decision had already been made.
DT was over the top with his hyperbole at times often directing it at the far right and theists, some of it I found hilarious. I often wish he would have put in better qualifiers instead of indicating a whole group through hyperbole or if serious, just qualify it with “many, most, some, a good portion” but I guess that was just too mealy-mouthed for his nature.
Another thing to consider is DT’s post count in lieu of how many warnings he got. A moderator says he averaged a warning about one every three months, but once going 11 months without any. DT averaged about 11 posts a day, so he went about 1,000 posts between warnings on average, and about 3,300 in another long stretch, which considering how many controversial topics he participated in, doesn’t really seem like that much to me, anyway.
It looks good to say I have went 6 years without any warnings. But I’ve only posted just a little over 1,000 posts. The same amount DT would have covered in three months.
Well, I won’t go into what goes on in the mod loop other than to assure you this was not the case.
In terms of bringing the two new mods on board and the suspension it was coincidental. The two happened in parallel with no connection between them.
I’m not quite getting your logic. The last post he got warned on was on 1-27-2015. That happened to be the day the latest two Mods came on. Unless you think Der Trihs was in on the conspiracy and timed his offending post with the date of the announcement I’m not sure what logic you are using. They didn’t even get their jackboots fitted then. They were not involved.
Do you think that Asmovian and Ivory Tower Denizen were brought on like some hockey goons to start knocking heads? I take it you haven’t had any dealings with them. And besides, all of the cited infractions were from GD. There are no new GD mods.
It shows that he continued his multi-thread crime spree after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
If I’m understanding razncain correctly;
Jonathan Chance says that the two new mods weren’t on the mod loop for the Der Trihs suspension decision. Since the apparent final prompt for the decision - the most recent warning - happened at roughly (well, almost exactly, but meh) the same time as the announcement that the two new mods were… mod be-hatted, one way for that statement to be accurate would be if the decision to suspend** Der Trihs** came before the warning. In other words, he’s not saying that the two mods had anything to do with the decision - just that their announcement as mods along with JC’s statement gives a timeline that’s potentially problematic.
Which seems silly to me, if so, anyway. No offense intended to razncain if I’ve misterpreted! I think there’s probably some other explanation. Or JC was simply mistaken.
Or it just shows that while in the middle of saying goodbye to some key members and also working to bring two new and one newish mod up to speed, the rest of the staff continued to do the job that was needed.
Or since it the initial announcement Ed stated that IvoryTowerDenizen had a fever and was not going to start modding right away, we can just blame Asmovian for everything. In fact, I think that is a good policy from here on when anything comes up.
I never meant to give a problematic timeline. But the fact is that the two new mods took a day or two to get involved in the mod loop. It takes time to get their emails added to the list and we had some issues with spam filtration.
As it happens, I DO still read this thread, you know…
That all makes perfect sense. I’ll bear that in mind in the future.
I forgot to tell you, there was a vote…
As has been noted, this was exactly the case. It can take time to get people in the loop.
The idea that we were waiting for new mods to come on board before taking action makes no sense. I assure you that the selection process for mods does not involve quizzing them on their opinions about suspending individual posters in advance.
So I just want to understand this, DT can read the forums at the moment, just can’t post?
Anyone can read the forum – you don’t even have to be logged in.
As one of the new mods in question, I can tell you that this is how it happened. In fact, I was having technical issues with getting a new email address.
I believe Asimovian was specifically brought on to serve as scapegoat. And I’m cool with that.
I’ve been working with that theory since late 2009.
I imagine you have been!
Were I moderator of this particular forum, I might note that some of you are straying WELL off topic into areas that I’m almost certain no one cares to hear about—particularly this scapegoating nonsense.
I might also note that I’ve been on this board 10 years, and you people STILL can’t spell my name correctly…
I don’t know what you’re talking about…
