Watching Trump destroy the GOP from within almost makes 2016-2020 worthwhile. Just as long as he doesn’t win in 2024, then it won’t be funny anymore.
Yep. I didn’t have a horse in this race because I think they are both contemptable people that spell absolute misery and disaster for the US.
But on reflection, Trump is still worse. If he gets in a second time, we’ll never be able to vote him out again.
“Meatball Ron” is pretty catchy, I have to admit.
News item: Key DeSantis staffer believes women are inferior and that politics and governance should be the exclusive province of men.
Questions: Does this reflect at all on DeSantis himself? Either way, is it a positive or a negative in terms of electability on the right to hold that women are second-class citizens?
Oh, ya’ll ain’t second class citizens, Sugar, we just put you up on that there pedestal where ya’ll belong.

Oh dear (I keep saying that about DeSantis!). Yes, I think he might catch some flak for that!
Probably not from the right. Trump’s views on women are pretty well-known and that was a feature not a bug for his electability. At least among RW voters.
My question is, are Honey Bobo and Perjury Traitor Greene hoping that this particular leopard will not eat their faces?
They are Honorary Men For The Purpose Of Owning The Libs
Political unrest in the US isn’t new. I think Trump can’t win the GOP nomination in 2024. DeSantis can win the general election if the Dems can’t find someone better than Biden.
Agreed. I think the man will literally be sitting in prison soon. Even if he is not, he would lose to Biden again, easily.
Wait, you don’t think Biden can beat DeSantis?
I’m not sure Biden could beat DeSantis. Biden is 80 yrs old, and never was all that articulate. DeSantis has a strong personality, a military background, and a rule-of-law ideology. If DeSantis can convince Americans that he can lead all of the US (i.e. not try to force conservative ideology on swing states, he has a good change to defeat Biden. If Newsom can convince Americans that he can lead all of the US (i.e. not try to force liberal ideology on swing states, he could be a good challenge to DeSantis. If it’s Biden - Trump, then we are all screwed.
You lost me there. I mean, a chunk of solid stone is weight-bearing, so in that sense it’s “strong”, but it doesn’t quite translate into the kind of charisma that gets attention and inspires people.
Just type “ron desantis charisma” into Google to get an idea.
DeSantis had enough charisma to get the attention of Florida voters in 2022. I think the only Dem that has enough charisma to defeat DeSantis is Newsom.
“Winning” doesn’t mean a person is charismatic. There are a lot of factors that go into a successful campaign for governor or president. And yes, that does mean that I’m saying that a person does not need charisma to win a race for POTUS, but I’m also saying that it’s absolutely not one of Ron’s strong points.
I looked this up. CNN and Stephen Colbert hit DeSantis on charisma: ‘The Jeb Bush of the 2024 cycle’. In that sense of the word, Ron lacks charisma. “Personal quality of presence or charm that compels its subjects”. In a politician, I prefer quality of presence over charm.
Do you mean the military background where he stood by and watched prisoners get tortured? Not very “rule-of-law” either.
I am sure every one of these points has been made in this thread, but just to repeat:
Biden is taller. The taller candidate has an overwhelming advantage. Not 100%, but overwhelmingly advantage Biden.
Biden has a Northern European name. Not so for DeSantis. Yeah, a lot of people don’t care about that, but those who care are more likely to vote Republican. This won’t drive votes to Biden, but it will keep votes away from DeSantis.
Biden has lighter hair color (even before Biden got white). Again, like height, not 100%, but it is advantage Biden.
DeSantis is much more articulate in speech than BIden, absolutely. But, being a smooth-talker is not really an advantage. The voting public has a dislike for smooth-talkers.
Biden’s sense of humor is corny, almost stupid. DeSantis has no sense of humor. None. It’s like DeSantis wouldn’t recognize humor if he tripped over it going up steps of a plane.
Look at all of the Presidential elections for the past 40 years. While the winner may not hit each of the points I mention above, they all hit the majority of them. Biden hits all of them.
Now, replace DeSantis with Trump, and it becomes much more blurred. The height difference is negligible. More Northern European name? Toss-up. Hair color? That’s just a joke, there’s no way to tell. Smooth-talker? Ha! That’s a fight for the bottom. Sense of humor? It depends on what you find funny. Those who like off-color jokes will vote for Trump. Those who like understated humor, Biden.
At best, when I look at it this way, against DeSantis, Biden has an easy win. Against Trump, it is hard to tell.
DeSantis won the Florida governorship largely on the back of the fact the democratic candidate was a Republican who switched parties and generated essentially zero enthusiasm from real Democrats.
Point being the fact he won FL is no ringing endorsement of anything except his credentials as a hit with RW crazies. But less of a hit than TFG is.

DeSantis won the Florida governorship largely on the back of the fact the democratic candidate was a Republican who switched parties and generated essentially zero enthusiasm from real Democrats.
Which makes it look like after coming respectably close in 2018 with a legit candidate who turned out badly flawed, the FloriDems just despaired of being able to get it right this time around. Or like they’ve decided to just surrender the statehouse and that the only thing that counts is the US Senate seats… which they also continue to fail to contest succesfully.
