DeSantis can't win the GOP nomination or the general election in 2024 {How Trump plays into this is allowed}

Right. That’s an example of someone doing absolutely nothing wrong or even that mockable getting destroyed… and yet Trump is somehow permitted to spend year after year saying and doing the most outrageous and genuinely evil things?!

Yeah, and the thing is, this moment shows his real character and demeanor. It’s not some outlier.

I couldn’t believe my eyes, literally. I thought it was some type of altered footage. His expression goes so goofy and so extreme in just an instant. It’s bizarre.

Watching it with the sound off is even funnier.

The difference in normalization of deviance between Jan 2004 when Dean was imploded and mid-2015 when Trump became a real factor in R politics is far far greater than the mere 11 years’ time might suggest. Much less the additional 8 years since 2015.

We live in a very different world now.

Right. In 2006, George Allen, a Republican, got shot down for calling someone the obscure (to most Americans) racial slur “macaca”:

I mean, all Trump has ever said are things worse than that.

You’re assuming he has a plan beyond “I want to be President again”. Certainly some of the people around him have things they want to accomplish, but Trump in way ever gave a crap about who was going to be a judge (at any level) beyond the adulation appointing certain folks got him.

A summary of bad press regarding DeSantis’s World Bobblehead Tour:

Easy answer. No. It will be soon forgotten.

His low chance of being nominated remains unchanged.

He’s likely planning a self-pardon.

Not relevant to state charges? That’s how I would vote if on the Supreme Court, but I’m not.

Oh dear. The Mouse Strikes Back:

In a country with an honest court system this would be lights out for Little Ronnie.

In the USA in 2023/2024, I’m not so sure.

If I was trying to defend DeSantis here, which I am not. I would likely make the argument that Disney’s recent actions have brought a situation to the attention of the State Government that needs to be addressed by the legislature.

It’s purely coincidental that Disney opposed certain aspects of the State’s legislative agenda at the same time. The State Government is required to act in the interests of all Floridians, not just the large corporations.

I’m not sure I could make the argument with a straight face, but I’m not a lawyer.

A conservative leaning judge would quite likely buy such an argument.

This probably isn’t your point, but if he loses, he didn’t lose. Or, if he did lose, every Florida taxpayer with roughly his same tax status will have lost just as much as he did.

As for what DeSantis’s defense should be, I don’t know the law, but, morally, I would say – soverign immunity. Making believe that the government was punished, when it was really the taxpayers who were punished, does not impress me.

Now, if Disney can win a personal lawsuit against DeSantis, and take most of his savings, I’m for that.

Wulp, Ronnie still thinks he has a chance.

An exploratory committee is short of a candidacy. Which is really his Rubicon because then once he declared he has to resign from the Governorship early.

As a Floridian myself I know nothing of FL’s gubernatorial succession rules. Nor do I know who the heir apparent is. It’s certainly possible his replacement would be worse for FL. The fact that’s potentially true is a ghastly comment on FL RW politics, but can’t be ruled out.

But in general, I think Ronnie declaring then getting his ass handed to him early in the primaries is probably locally optimal for FL. And also globally optimal for the USA, at least unless Trump gets the nomination as a result.

I’m genuinely surprised that they haven’t shoved through a law allowing him to stay as Gov while running.

It’s on its way.

The exploratory committee will blaze throught the wilderness like Lewis and Clark and return with the finding that yes, everybody wants DeSantis to run for president. Seriously, how many candidates have failed to run after forming exploratory committees?

African-American man and dog (DeSantis doesn’t strike me as a pet person) not included.

YEAH! Run, Ron-chan, RUN!!!

I wonder if Trump feels at all motivated to try to out-Ron Ron? If, to get attention and primary votes, he starts promising to bring the full weight of the federal government against “woke” corporations, maybe (in my fantasies) praising the Texas judge who allowed the FDA suit and promising more of that. Big money would be fleeing the Republican presidential race faster than you can say “bank run.” Even Sanders would have a shot then.

After all, the smart thing to do would be to sit back and let DeSantis implode, so Trump’s definitely not going to do that.
