The town on the Thames, where King Charles lives. London
The town on the Seine, where the Sun King once reigned. Paris
Named for a dead bird who comes back to life. Phoenix
The Town of Wind, on a Great Lake Chicago
The town with a big arch; Clark and his team set out from there to map the lands drained by the big stream. St. Louis
Coast town in the State Where The Sun Shines; big race held there each year, used to be held on the sand at low tide, now it’s held on a track Daytona Beach, Florida
Main town of its land, built on a dry lake bed, each year it sinks a bit more. At one time this town had the most folks of all towns in the world, but those days are gone. Mexico City, Mexico
Town in the Land of the New Sun; its name in its own tongue means “main town in the east.” The land’s god-king lives there. Tokyo
In the Land of the New Sun, this town is known for its food vibe. Folks tell me this town has the best food vibe of all towns in this land. Its best dish is these balls made of meat from those things in the sea with eight legs. Osaka
Wayne’s World; Alice said it.
Isn’t “Charles” 2 syllables? “Chuck” might have worked better.
Saint Mark’s, black boats and the Doge house.
It’s one of those words, like “fire” or “world” or “tired” that could go either way. Officially, the dictionary considers it one syllable.
Venice
So, there is a state with three big ball teams (that game where you bounce the ball and throw it through a hoop). One wears light blue, one wears dark blue, and the third wears red. THEY ARE NOT FRIENDS. That state. I live in the big town in the west of that state, in the Blue Ridge. Last year a big storm hit us with a huge flood, and we were on the news a lot.
It’s a place where they have a church with a saint’s right hand in a glass box. It is known for its baths. A man who made a famed cube is from here. Its Chain Bridge is its most known span that joins the two sides of this place. (It is formed from three old towns, though, not two, as some think).
North Carolina
Do you mean Buda or Pest?
Sorry, I meant both: “Its Chain Budge is its most known span that joins the two sides of this place,” with the two sides referring to Buda and Pest, and “this place” referring to Budapest. The third town that Budapest is formed from is Óbuda (or “Ancient Buda”), which was administratively separate from Buda and a town in its own right.
All roads lead to there.
Big white dude on the hill, arms out.
The blue and the white streams meet here.
My town’s a snap; it’s the North Coast. It’s home of the Cavs, the Browns, and the team that used to be called the Tribe (I’ve heard them called the Guards now, but that has not caught on yet). Well, not quite where I live, now: Where I live now is one town west, but still on the lake.
The town where my mom grew up is in the big hills to the east. It’s best known for a big flood, a long time ago, when the South Fork dam broke. The film Slap Shot was made there.
All roads lead from there, too: Some folks just walk them the wrong way. But you could have just said the name (at least, in the tongue we speak here-- In their own tongue, their name has one more sound at the end).
All roads lead to there. Rome
Big white dude on the hill, arms out. Rio de Janeiro
The blue and the white streams meet there. – Had to look this one up. Khartoum
Cleveland
If we’re doing hometowns:
Mine is seat of law of its state. Abe Who Told The Truth lived here for years and years, he did law here. Then he left, and got shot at a play.
What’s more, my grand mom went to nurse school there. Johnstown
Port of the dawn. You know, the one near the gold. No, not that one.
It is on a strait, but the roads ain’t straight- which is to say they don’t run side by side. They run like spokes out from a point. Some French guy thought of that. The place was a big deal back in the day, but of late has had its share of hard times and woe. But it is a tough town and keeps going. One of our sports teams just had a big loss that made most of us real sad
Springfield?
Mile High town.
