The author Jeremy Zilber posted this on Facebook, and I thought it was so brilliant it needed to be shared:
Talking about this election feels like talking about a very weird dream I had. “And Donald Trump was running president, but he was WAY worse than the real Donald Trump, but the media took him seriously like he was a real candidate, and the polls showed it might actually be a close election because Clinton did something weird with her email or something, and then there was something about Trump being a predator but nobody seemed to care very much, and he kept saying he’d lock her up if he won or maybe start a revolution if he lost, and also he loved Putin for some reason, and Russia was involved somehow, and then the FBI tried to help him because for some reason Obama had allowed a Republican to be in charge of the FBI, and lots of liberals wouldn’t vote for Clinton because they didn’t care if Trump won and got rid of Obamacare and built walls and banned Muslims and appointed only pro-lifers to the Court because they hated her so much for reasons most of us couldn’t quite understand, and then there was this other candidate who couldn’t name any foreign leaders but was still getting at least 5% in the polls, and then a giant squid showed up and ate everything, and then I woke up.”
The weird dream sounds like me trying to explain the election to my friends in New Zealand who aren’t paying any attention to any of it, but think I must have it wrong because what I’m saying sounds fabricated. “…And white people managed to purge thousands of black people off the voter rolls in North Carolina by sending them mail that got returned…” really its true!
