Design your own X-Men

Okay, we’ve done threads on your personal favorite choices for Justice League members, and Mighty Avenger members, so I guess this is the logical next step.

First, I’d start with the Beast, because he’s one of my all-time favorite characters. He’d take over Prof. X’s position as headmaster of the school and behind-the-scenes leader of the team.

Kitty Pryde - My second favorite X-person. She’s smart & experienced enough to serve as the team’s field leader.

Sunspot - We need a superstrong guy, and he’s was always itching for a promotion to the X-Men back in the “New Mutant” days. It’d be an interesting contrast (to his former arrogant persona) to see him get the job, and then not like it.

Magma - Just 'cus she looks way cool in her molten lava state.

Skin - Stretchy elastic guys always come in handy when you least expect it, and he’s cooler than Warlock, so sign him up.

Feral - Every team needs a good brawler, and she fits the bill. The last time I paid attention to Marvel continuity, she had become a villain, but that is a mere minor change in the world of the X-Men. She’d be a (somewhat) reformed bad girl.

Legion - Because the team needs a psi, and it just wouldn’t be the X-Men if there wasn’t a loose cannon on the team.

Nightcrawler - Teleporting, near invisibility in shadows, wall-crawling - all tactically useful. He’d be considered the ‘old-timer’ by his younger compatriots, and get chided for always talking about the ‘old days’.

As you might have gathered, I like the idea of clearing away the old guard and giving promotions to some of the younger X-hanger-ons. IMO, some of the longtime characters such as Cyclops & Wolverine seem fairly stale now. I’d like to see a new team (akin to the “new” X-Men of UXM #94) step up to the plate.

Storm- Always liked her as leader.

Quicksilver- Favorite mutant and would love to see him on X-men.

Forge- Another favorite character who I think is grossly underused.

Iceman- I see Iceman and Quicksilver being the unlikely odd couple comic relief.

Chamber- A good character who adds a lot of power to the team.

Gambit- takes the bad ass position on the team.

Leader/Mentor- Magneto. He’s just cool and can lead from the front.

Brains/Lieutenant- M. She has that matter-of-fact attitude that makes her ideal for this role.

Muscle- Juggernaught (I guess he’s good now? I picked up ‘The End’ and he was fighting for the X-Men) Repentant former villian who will be spurred into sacrificing himself in a suitibly tear-jerking fashion. A common fate for the group strongman.

Lone Wolf/Wiseass- Iceman. Now that he can’t change out of his ice form, he’s become a bit darker and his sense of humor is more cynical, rather than juvenile and goofy. While experienced, won’t readily take the newer members under his wing, hence the need for the…

Veteran/Older Brother- I’ll agree with you on Nightcrawler.

Obligatory telepath- Marvel Girl (Rachael Summers) It wouldn’t be the X-Men without a telepath. But let’s keep it reasonable. Chamber would also be a decent choice. Wait, is M a telepath, too? Oh well.

Rookie- Husk. Fairly naive and innocent. She could get into a lot of trouble, or somehow manage to save the rest of the team. Whatever is required for that month.

I’m glad someone started this thread, as I didn’t want to start a new one for this question:

In the Xbox games X-Men II and Marvel: Rise of the Imperfects, they refer to Wolverine’s name being “James Howlett.”

When was this revealed, and what was the story/circumstances surrounding the revelation? Any new news on his origin? I haven’t picked up a comic book in years.

Strong Guy, Multiple Man, Polaris, Havok (what can I say, I liked X-Factor), Longshot, Deadpool (he’s ready for a team!) and chain Adam Hughes to a desk to make him draw the entire run!

Yeesh, I designed a helmet party! Add Dazzler, Kitty Pride, and Emma Frost for a little bitchiness.

I second Sunspot. Always liked him.

Madrox. Will always pick him, cause he’s just cool.

Havok, to play alpha male with Sunspot.

Iceman, to give him a chance to grow up.

Wolfsbane, Husk and Blink. Three useful and cute girls (not that there are any non-cute X-Girls, somehow)

Warpath, as more muscle and fun interactions with Sunspot.

“James Howlett.”.

Oh, and I think we need a fan of Chris Claremont/establish writer, or just the man himself, doing something good with Kelsey Leigh, the current Captain Britain.

In the “Origin” limited series that gave Wolverine a definitive origin so to speak.

Ever read “Secret Garden”? Wolvie was the sickly kid and apparently the claws are more of a family trait rather than an x-gene mutation.

Design your own X-Men?
Okay … how about Jean Gray with power-assisted battle armor and shoulder-mounted rocket launchers? (And jump-jets, of course.)

Or … maybe Cyclops with the added powers of invisibility and gravity control. That’d be pretty bad-ass, wouldn’t it?

Sorry, I believe those two have already been done, as action figures.

Here goes (with story and direction ideas) -

Rogue, as team leader. Let’s lose the bullshit “Tawk too mah fayce, SHUGAH” southern caricature dialogue and develop the shit out of her into a mature, confident leader.

Longshot and Dazzler, as the senior alpha couple. New costumes, better powers for Dazzler (secondary mutation or something).

Sunfire; keep the Japanese nationalism, but toned down a bit so it’s less of a schtick.

The big translucent blob guy (student) from Morrisson’s run on New X-men as the bulk strength character. Lots of development of his character.

Kitty Pryde moved into a leading role. Bring back the Jewiness - interesting ideological discussions with Sunfire?

Tarot from the Hellions. Dead, but retcon it or something. Always liked her, and she was always way underused.

Jamie Madrox. Great character that really needs no modifications. Potentially use for a super-existential “are the multiples me, or am I a multiple too?” storyline down the road.

I also really want Banshee, Forge (is he dead?), Doug Ramsey (definitely dead - retcon that somehow), as a “nerve center” - non-field active characters that act as a sort of long-distance logistical support for whatever the team’s doing, a la 24 (for lack of a better comparison).

All of the classic/legacy characters (beast/cyclops/storm/Angel/Iceman/etc.) are retired from teams, but acting as a full-time teachers at the school, which is actually functioning as a school again. Also, all of the “badass” characters - Gambit, Bishop, any of those X-force characters like Shatterstar, those embarrassing late-nineties Gen-X Nu-Metal characters like Maggot/Marrow/Shitfayce or anyone like that - are all killed off permanently at the beginning of my first arc.

Storywise, I definitely want to move away from the “X-men as tactical anti-terrorism squad” “ripped from today’s headlines” type stories and get back to lots of magical/supernatural/cosmic/Clan Yoshida/savage land/aliens type stories.

Including Cyclops with the power of Invisibility?
Wow, how’d they do that with an action figure?

Well, my point is not that they did that spceific figure, but that you will occassionally see a figure like Superman with shoulder mounted cannon twice as tall as him. I understood what he meant was in regards to the original comicbooks, actually modifying the people, but I was just taking it in a diffrent direction.

Forge would need to be toned down, power wise, a bit. Reed Richards should be Marvel’s pre-eminent gadget builder. The “I can build anything” schtick can be a writer’s crutch if the dude can simply whip up any machine needed.
