Hot pie (microwaved is more than acceptable) a la mode - sign me up. Certain types of hot cake work well too, like chocolate.
Ice cream on a brownine fresh out of the oven but otherwise, meh.
Other.
I don’t really eat dessert.
If I have a yummy baked dessert in front of me, ice cream seems like a lame distraction. Don’t want it.
I like ice cream on warm deserts. Ice cream cakes are abominations though. Crappy ice cream and frozen hard cake? No thanks.
I roll dairy-free myself, so it’s not quite ice cream, but…
blackberry sorbet on a brownie is divine! raspberry is good too, but blackberry takes the cake
We started making our own ice cream with a special bowl and attachment for the KitchenAid mixer. I’ve got no fond memories of those damn cranks from my youth. It works well as long as the bowl is stored in a deep freeze. A typical refrigerator freezer is cold enough.
Anyhow, now we’re cloning Ben and Jerry’s and making our own ice cream. Pumpkin pie ice cream was fantastic, and coffee ice cream and whiskey & honey are great too. Even the vanilla we get by using real vanilla beans is worth it. I’d like to try champagne next, or a champagne-vanilla bean-cinnamon syrup flavor that I’ve used before on poached peaches.
I voted other because I don’t like ice cream at all.
Not a desert person. I lost my sweet tooth in my 20s. I’ll eat one slice of birthday cake for my birthday, but that is enough.
For dessert tonight I had a toasty golden brown belgian waffle with vanilla ice cream melting into every little crevice. Topped it off with warm maple syrup to add a slight nutty sweetness to it all.
Hells yes, I’m for putting ice cream on anything*.
- except meat. I can’t imagine that would be good.
A-HA! I sense a challenge!
I e cream and hot fruit pie is win. I e cream and pumpkin pie, not so much. Some cakes go well with ice cream.
I completely agree with this. My exceptions for ice cream on top are a really thick crusted cobbler that’s piping hot, so the ice cream mostly melts before it has time to ruin the thick crust, or an apple crisp, where the crisp is so crispy it can stand a little bit of sogging.
I had a particularly bad cobbler from a supermarket deli, and the entire time I ate what I could of it, I was thinking “This might be tolerable a la mode.”
And I think I want an ice cream cake for my birthday.
Ice cream works on (warm) cobblers and crisps but I don’t much care for it on cake or pie. If there’s frosting on the cake, that makes me care for it even less, because ice cream and frosting are not a good combination.
Ice cream on a brownie is also good. Especially with hot fudge added.
I’ve never liked ice cream cakes. Because it’s cake, I want to chew it. Because it’s ice cream, I can’t without freezing my teeth and yelping in pain. So I take little enough bites that let me melt them in my mouth like a spoon of ice cream, but then by the time I’m finishing the cake it’s a puddle because I’m taking too long.
