In a normal MMO, they’d be the ones that con purple.
AFAICT, it’s pretty much just a reason to wander back to the early zones on occasion once you level cap.
I recognize those words, but that sign makes no sense. </Lisa Simpson>
Seriously man can you put that in English? I have never played a “normal MMO”.
Sorry.
Anyway, in most MMOs, players are expected to fight critters that are level-appropriate. When zones got bigger, the developers started putting higher level enemies in theoretically out-of-the way places* to make it feel more like a living world. You couldn’t be expected to win fights against them until much later.
Con is short for /consider, a command from the granddaddies of MMOs that told you the relative power of the targeted enemy. The usual spread (from weakest to strongest) is grey/green/blue/white/yellow/orange/red/purple. This has found its way into a lot of single player games as well.
*such as 5 paces off the road you’re expected to take.
So, if I liked Borderlands and Borderlands 2 but don’t have any online friends (do we have a PSN friends list for the Dope?) is it worth playing as a single player?
The bits that absolutely require groups provide pick-up groups.
Ok. So I played for a couple hours last night and there are a few things that I don’t get
-
How in the world do I co-op missions if I don’t have any PSN friends that are playing? I thought the game would match people up or something. I went to Russia and was running around the level with a couple of random guys and then as soon as I entered the “no respawn area” they disappeared and I was alone. Are you stuck soloing the story missions if you don’t have any PSN friends playing?
-
When running around open areas trying to get to my mission objective I’ve noticed that if there are higher level people playing there they will wipe out most of the mobs before I get near them. This leaves me basically running a lonely mile not having anything to fight until I hit the “no respawn area”. This is depriving me of xp needed to lvl.
-
The weapons you start with, or at least the ones I’ve gotten/upgraded through lvl 5, seems severely underpowered. To the point that alot of fights get boring as I spend all kinds of ammo trying to cut a captains shield down and then 100 rounds trying to kill him before his shield comes back and I have to go through the process of taking it down again. Playing missions that are = to my level or higher can be a slow grind to get through because of the peashootereqsue power of the weapons. I run into these purple light orb things that are the same level as me but take an enormous amount of ammo to kill. It’s doubly slow because of the constant retreating to recharge my shield.
-
Game isn’t doing a very good job of explaining its systems to me. I can dismantle gear and get some cubes. What’s this for and how does it work? Cubes? I’ve been picking silver plants but have no idea what they are for. I just pick’em.
-
The speeder bikes are cool and I like that I can just summon it wherever I’m at like Borderlands. Does the thing get any firepower at any point?
-
Where is the PvP located?
You can pause the game and go to the “Roster” screen and it will display a list of other players in the same level with you. Select them and you can send message, invite to be your friend, and I think there’s an “Invite to play Destiny” but I’m not sure how that works if you’re both already on a mission.
When you’re in orbit, there is an option to invite your friends to join your fireteam. From here, you will only see friends who are online. (and in Destiny? not sure)
Yeah, that sucks. You may want to just hang back until the enemies respawn. In the typical outdoor areas, enemies respawn pretty regularly.
I think that’s working as designed. If you can get a fusion rifle and get in close, you can do a lot of damage. Or use the scout rifle or hand cannon and focus on getting good at precision head shots. You should be able to take one of those Captains down with 4-5 head shots.
The cubes are glimmer, the primary currency. You also pick up other random bits like spinmetal leaves and helium cores or something. Those are used for more advanced gear from the various factions. I think that becomes more important after level 20. I’m level 11 and haven’t done anything with the factions yet, besides earning some vanguard bounties.
On the moon, there are some “Pikes” that are like Sparrows with blasters. I am not sure if your own vehicle will be upgraded with firepower eventually, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I bought the 1st upgraded bike just last night. It cost over 2000 glimmer and it is just a little faster and more maneuverable. You get it from the shipwright.
Go to the Crucible (near the Guardian leaders – Titan, Hunter, Warlock) and you can select missions similar to the Vanguard Bounties, but focused on PvP. Then when you go into Orbit, you will see Crucible as an option on the right. That is all PvP matches. Warning – I get slaughtered every time I try this.
Once you get a decent (green) weapon drop, spinmetal is also used to upgrade it. For example, I got a pulse rifle that, after I’d used it a while (xp gain using the weapon is required) let me spend some spinmetal to: increase the base damage, increase the damage more as the magazine runs dry, and the choice between an assault scope or a sniper scope.
The reviews trickling in… not so good, but also fairly split. 6 from polygon, 3/5 Giant bomb, 3/5 escapist.
Really enjoying the combat on this game. The boss fights are kinda weak though. Just huge billet sponges.
Absolutely HATE Peter Dinklers voice for the ghost. His poor voice acting brings the game down quite a bit IMHO. Very distracting from a very polished game otherwise.
No PC release yet? Why not?
No PC release yet? Why not?
No one knows for sure. They claim that they didn’t’ have the man power to tackle PC plus 4 other consoles.
I think it’s maybe a little bit that, but also because this game wouldn’t cut it on a platform that has games featuring a lot more content, more sophisticated social/online features and many of which are free.
They’ll add some actual content, they’ll refine the online features, and then they’ll release it on PC. Activation/Blizzard isn’t going to ignore the online PC gaming market.
