Hey, I’m playing *Deus Ex * for the first time (yeah, I know; I’m chronically late, OK?) and I am stuck at the helipad/ airfield with low, low health. Due to excessive in-game altruism on my part, I did not lie, cheat, hack and burgle enough augs/ mods/ health kits etc. back at the UNATCO HQ when I had the chance.
I can’t enable cheats, because I’m playing on gametap and the game files are not resident on my drive. I can’t seem to get past those %*@#$!! military robots, and I haven’t got any fancy stuff like thermal camo. I’m not even sure which way is out of there because I can’t find the “east gate.”
I don’t want to have to re-play it all from a HQ savepoint.
Is this the airfield where your ultimate goal is to find Lebedev? If you get the nanokey to the security towers, you can get into the security control panel. (I always hacked, but there might be a login/password around somewhere; I don’t recall.) It helps to have the speed augment since the cameras will see you and activate the turrets on the towers. From the control panel, you can turn off the cameras and instruct the turrets to attack enemies. The turrets will destroy the bots for you, since their patrol routes typically take them into range of the turrets.
Also, the security towers have loot, so entering them is good anyway.
Another option is to take a GEP gun and just blast the robots to smithereens, but I tended to shun large weapons. Really all you need to get through the game is an assault rifle, a sniper rifle, and the hand crossbow with tranqs.
And the east gate is on the other side of the compound from helipad.
Good advice from Hoopy Frood. You should be able to dodge the robots entirely if you’re patient and wait for their routes. Also, there are crates within the cargo boxes, if you can climb up on top of them you’ll be able to get some health and ammo. There is a GEP gun in that level which can help a ton with destroying the bots and doors/cameras. I’d suggest picking it up for a bit if just to save on lock picks and multitools. I believe it’s located pretty close to the helipad. If you’re really hard up, just abuse the save feature. Make a mad dash to the next area and save. Kill one dude luckily and save.
Good advice, both of you. Through a combination of your suggested tactics, in fact, I finally made it. Yay!! This game is big fun, it’s just the kind I like.
However, after I talked to the russian guy, killed that sourpuss Anne Navarre, went back to HQ and loaded up on augs/ ammo, and got into the NSF HQ… gametap LOST ALL MY SAVEGAMES. I turned the service off to take a break, turned it back on & they were all “missing.”

You can probably pick up the GoTY version for practically nothing. Might avoid such hassles in the future.
And you can play as a roguish thiefty bastard and get all the good loot, next time around.
Yep. It’s $10 from Steam. The sequel is $14 from Steam. Or you can buy both for $20.
Also, re: killing Navarre at that point:
Is there anyway to do so without resorting to using big guns or anticipating her betrayal of the UNATCO ideals and placing LAM’s where she can run into them? I find that she’ll take you out before you can kill her using any smaller weapons.
My favorite way to kill her here is to hide a LAM (or two) in the bathroom. That way you get full conversation and then when she’s goes into combat, blast her with one of those one-shot “insta-kill for low-level enemies” handguns. (I forget the name.) She’ll typically run into the bathroom and set off the LAM. You and Lebedev should be far enough away to not get hurt by the it.)
Though, overall when killing her, I wait until a later scene:
I prefer to kill her with the killswitch. I find it more amusing to defeat her through cunning then combat.
Well, I used a LAM on the right doorjamb of the double doors to Lebedev’s compartment. Like I said, I barely had legs underneath me at all, & that was just far enough away.
She bugs me. Nobody trills their R’s that much.
Wow, that is cheap. I guess I have no excuse. Heh.
