A friend asked me where she could get somewhat racy photos developed without risk of her negs being destroyed. I’m at a loss since I went all-digital for my own amateur smut some time ago.
The Master has addressed this topic: How can I get my, uh, hot photos developed?
For what its worth, I’ve gotten ours developed at snapfish.com before without any trouble, plus they put them up on the internet in your own private album for you too so you can view them on your computer/share them etc.
Just as long as “racy” doesn’t mean anything illegal (e.g., kiddie porn). They might be obligated to report evidence of criminal behavior.
Am I the only guy who opened this thread thinking it was about was about the history of a recipe? :smack:
If it is kiddie porn, then by all means go get it developed at a regular 'ol photo lab. It will make it easier for the cops to find you.
When I worked in a Kinko’s it was a not-infrequent occurance for gorgeous young women to come in to get color copies of their modeling shots. Whenever she was accompanied by a sleazy-looking middle-aged male companion I knew to wander over and take a look while the job was running because those were always the girls with the topless or lingerie photos. (One set of a tall, raven-haired beauty cavorting in a snowy wood wearing only a sheer red bra and panty set and, occasionally, an open fur coat, still gives me pleasant memories all these years later.) As far as I knew, no one ever kept any copies.

Just remember - you have no control on who sees these photos, once they have been developed. Remember that creepy movie starring Robin Williams!
Our largest local “novelties store” also has 24-hour photo development (not to mention, are you ready for this? Tanning. Eww.) where I’d assume they’d develop anything you’ve got that dosen’t have kids or goats in it, and I’d also assume that your pictures may not be all that confidential.
I know that someone at a photo place with a scanner can accomplish the same thing in a few seconds but no matter how secure someone claims that site is I’d be a wee bit nervous about them posting my racy snapshots on the web. Once they get out there they ain’t never coming back.
Alternate suggestion - got any friends who are amateur photographers? They may be able to develop the photos right in front of you so you know that illicit copies aren’t being made. One of my coworkers spends lots of his free time in a darkroom, I’m sure if I came to him with a similar situation he’d be happy to help out.
Actually, nude, fetish, or other erotic forms of photography are not that obscure or uncommon to have processed. The Master’s advice is generally correct: try an independent lab instead of the local drugstore, preferably one that serves people who do photography for a living, or as their mainstay armform. Professional places run by professionals will be able to handle anything for you, again so long as it doesn’t involve little kids or goats or little kids with goats. I almost always take my negatives to Helix in Oak Park, Illinois, regardless of their content, be it modelling or conventions or scenery. Places like this will do a better job and you’re guarranteed that they at least won’t handle the negatives with bare hands and put fingerprints all over them. That and being pro’s and photographers, they can handle the racier side of photography without blushing or crossing themselves for protection against you sinners. They even have a large assortment of photography manuals and books on display, including instructional books and albums that feature nudity, fetishism, and other styles of erotic photography.
If all else fails, try places in Europe. You won’t have any problems developing your stuff in the Netherlands, Denmark, or Germany. At worst, when you ask for your photos the whole staff with smile or high 5 you at the great photos
My father is the manager of a drug store that also develops photos, and they have a policy to develop anything that is not illegal, or penetration. The down side is that they do have a look at the photos.
