Deviated September (Monthly Mini-Rants)

My life in hell has begun. As part of the process of staging the house for sale, the first step – just the first of many – of de-cluttering and cleanup has begun. Even after the first day, I am so thoroughly de-cluttered that I barely know where to find anything any more.

The kitchen alone is now a nightmare, albeit a very clean nightmare. Apparently normal people keep various kitchen items stored away in cupboards, whereas wolfpups keep them all over the counter for easy access. We are a practical sort. I can’t wait until I finally move and start cluttering again!

Well we got the doctor’s approval to give our kid ADHD meds. (After waiting 45 minutes in a hot, stuffy room.)

He’s not going to swallow anything so we’ve got that challenge. There’s only one medication available that comes in a patch. So that’s what we’re doing.

I think we’ve got insurance approval.

But now we can’t find a pharmacy to fill it.

Kid is a little stressed about all this. The doctor drew a graph showing how his concentration would peak during the school day and then wear off in the evening. It was a great graph for adults but of course my kid gets hyperfixated on it.

Tonight I asked how he’s feeling about all this. Because of the graph, he’s worried about losing his concentration in the evening, or while he’s sleeping. I’ve tried to explain that once it wears off it’s just going back to normal, but if there are any side effects the doctor can help. I told him that I take meds like that too and I find them helpful. It seemed to help him feel a bit better.

Update: You know that horrible grant I just wrote? The one I thought we were a bad fit for and hated every second?

I just got notice of award. That’s $358,000 for a DVSA Child Therapist and Youth Case Manager.

I’m gobsmacked. First that they decided in three weeks.

Second that we got it at all.

After writing, I dunno, 14 of these? It’s nice to get a win.

I think I’ve earned the rest of the day off. :joy:

Indeed, indeed you have! :+1:

Call the manufacturer, they should be able to tell you what pharmacies in your area stock it.

To delis and restaurants: Drumsticks are not wings! I like breasts, I like wings. I don’t like dark meat. When I buy a package of wings, I don’t want to see drumsticks. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

There used to be a brand of frozen wings here that were “flats only”, as if custom-made just for you. I used to think that was odd because at the time I preferred the drumsticks, but now I agree with you – flats are easier to eat and somehow tastier. I don’t think they make those any more, though – now you’re stuck with an assortment.

I think we found one. After calling 9 pharmacies.

I think the issue is that it’s both a patch and low dosage to start, so they wouldn’t keep something that seldom used on their regular rotation.

@InsomniaMama

I’ve struggled with insomnia all my life.

There was a period of time when I would get up in the middle of the night and eat without remembering.

I used to find jelly dribbles on my pillow and walk out to the kitchen to find an open peanut butter jar with a knife stabbed into it’s contents.

I think it was a hybrid distortion of sleep walking?

I love your nom nom phrase!

Just to clarify; are you talking about a drumette, which is 100% part of the wing (I mean, it’s literally part of the wing of a chicken) or a drumstick, which is part of the leg? They look similar but aren’t the same.

My wife does not like drumettes, she prefers the “flat”, and when we either cook them or order them prepared I usually only give her the flats. My daughter and I get the drumettes and whatever flats are left. I’m good with both so don’t mind.

Now, if a restaurant is literally serving you drumsticks (which are much larger than wings) then I agree, that’s pretty stupid, but I’ve never seen that before.

I live in a shared house with a few guys.

I really like chilli sauce, like really like it. Our food is quite bland to suit the lowest common denominator, so I always have chilli sauce on it. I do share when asked, a few of the others also like chilli sauce.

I had four different bottles this afternoon, each almost used up, maybe one or two servings left. I was a llittle late getting to the table, and found all fucking four bottles had been emptied, leaving me with none.

Fuckit, guys. I am sharing what is a precious resource. Leave me some of my own fucking chilli sauce! I’m going to buy some extreme California Reaper style stuff and repackage it in a more harmless looking bottle. I can handle that heat. I am pretty sure no one else can.

Perhaps I’m getting drumettes, which are too dark for my taste. Perhaps I should rephrase that to give me flats and tips only.

The tips are usually thrown away and not served, so you would only be getting the flats and drumettes. You’re going to just want the flats. To be fair, they usually have the most skin, are intact, and have a greater deal of fat (and flavor), so I get it.

I can’t criticize you though. My wife feels the same way and I love her, and accept that opinion as valid.

I think these pictures finally explain something I’ve been wondering about for years, but never bothered to look up. The name “drumette” obviously suggests the little drumstick-like pieces that come with a serving of wings, but as shown there raw, they look nothing like little drumsticks.

I presume that when prepared and cooked, they are transformed into what we are accustomed to seeing?

The meat will shrink and firm up. Here’s a picture of cooked drumettes for reference.

Some people will also clear meat off the bonier part of the piece for aesthetic purposes like this, to make “lollipops”.

But that’s only if you wanna be fancy.

:face_with_monocle:

By comparison, these are drumsticks.

Superficially similar, but much longer and have a more pronounced bone section.

And now I want Buffalo wings.

Me too. :frowning:

Thanks. I was 99.9% sure that what I now know are drumettes weren’t just drumsticks from small chickens, but even though I’ve cut up chickens, including the wings, many times, I’d never identified the drumette as such.

'twas on this day I learnt that wings are white meat.

mmm

Yep.

Drumettes are exactly the same white meat as are flats. The drumette is the chicken part corresponding to your upper arm. The flat is your lower arm. The tip is your wrist and hand. The significant difference between drumettes and flats in the eating is the much higher skin & fat ratio in flats. And the physically smaller muscle parts which leads to small morsels with lots of surface area for taste.

Breasts and wings, all three sections, are white meat.

Thighs and drumsticks, which correspond to your upper leg + hip area and lower leg respectively are dark meat.

Me three. The BWW near here closed. Time to find a new source.
