I installed a parallel port pci card so that I can have two printers. However, there is a conflict in My Computer/Device manager/properties/I/O settings.
Now I also see that there are tons of settings “in use by ‘unknown device’”.
I can’t imagine what all those devices would be or why they should be unknown. Is it possible that they are not being used at all and that I cound use one of these settings to resolve the conflict?
As it’s a PCI card you shouldn’t have to mess about with the IRQs too much. Have you set the PCI interrupts to AUTO in the BIOS and do you have a plug-and-play BIOS?
You need to install the appropriate drivers for the PCI card to resolve the unknown devices.
Try removing each unknown device, then restarting the PC - Windows will try to detect them and prompt you for the driver disk.
As well as the driver floppy/CD point Windows at c:\windows\system as it may have built-in or previously loaded drivers available.
You may also need to install drivers for the motherboard chipset before additional plug-in cards function correctly. For instance, Intel supply an “inf update” utility for their chipsets. Via have a “4in1” driver set and so on.
