A buddy of mine has a packard bell 166. (yes, I’m sorry too.) I reloaded the OS from the d:\win95 directory (on the restore cd). The PCI bridge and Com Port is showing a conflict in the device manager. I know there is another directory with .cab files in it on the restore cd (something with the end of the tree being \windows\options\cabs- can I restore from this without wiping the HD? The modem does not work because of the conflict. I need some help, anyone out there know about these infernal machines?
Wonko,
I am guessing that this is not a later version of Win 95 and you need the latest update to Win95 (SR2).
You may be able to change the conflict either via the BIOS (depending on the BIOS…I hate Packard Hell machines) or through Device Manager. Usually this will solve the problem.
Post all your devices and what IRQs they are using and see if we can come up with a resolve via that route. Usually using the restore CD will completely erase and reconfgure the system to it’s original factory condition, something it seems like you can’t do at this time.
I don’t have the irq and com port addresses, but there seems to be a “com port” and a “Com2” in the device manager. I’ve messed with the bios, but it sucks. I’ll try to get the info to you tomorrow. Thanks Techchick!
If anyone else has any ideas, lemmie know!
