As for Lib, I’m still curious as to how exactly I “elbow[ed] my way to the front of everyone and bull[ied] the Opening Poster.” Do my posts have some kind of special anti-posting power that makes it difficult for other posters to participate?
What you have done, you have done. I disagree with what you did (opening the thread in IMHO was not the wisest thing, but it could have gone in worse places; opening this thread was less wise but also could have been worse; asking that the thread be closed was, IMO, not the smartest thing in the world, but again it could have been worse), but I don’t personally see that you have any obligation to do any more here than learn from this. But then generally that’s a given. I just don’t see that you ever had a legitimate gripe against DCU for responding to your OP and continuing to discuss topics with you. Would you rather he just have posted “The problem with Libertopia is [this]” and then just gone away and not bothered to respond?
If BZOOOO0 is so far out there, we’re talking completely in the outer andromeda strain, then why has he gained so much recognition as being a complete quack so quickly and yet somehow avoided getting banned or droping off the face of the boards from being shat on so much?
Maybe he’s someone we all know and love who dicided to simply conjure up this new name and go completely batty on us…
Not that my opinion matters anywhere, but I have yet to see bullying on Dewey’s part. Pertinant and thoughtful questions, yes, but not bullying.
The question of freely given, untrackable resources is a good one. It is one that will have to be very clearly understood and explained before libertarianism can catch anymore than a happy thought hold on the people. I see Dewey’s questions being no more bullying than asking the gay guy to discuss safe sex practices. Its vital that society understand this stuff to become better. If you step up and say “I have the answers to all your questions!” you cannot really say that someone asking you a question is “bullying”, Lib.
I think everyone has it wrong about Libertarian. He’s definitely not a utopian. In fact, I think he’s a little too willing to say “In a Libertarian system, shit happens.” He can be downright apathetic vis a vis problems with the Libertarian system - he knows they exist, he just doesn’t care.
No. I would rather he had asked questions and then either gone away or asked more questions. It was a question and answer thread. I selected IMHO because that seemed to be where most of the Ask threads were settling and because, as I’ve said numerous times, it was not for a debate.
I read the thread in question and I don’t see how your comment follows, though maybe someone with an unbiased viewpoint who has an hour of time to kill would like to go back and re-read DCU’s posts in that thread and explain to me how he didn’t keep asking questions. He wanted clarification on several questions he had. Granted, he asked more than the other people in the thread, but several of them had running conversations with you. Are you going to pit them as well because they dared discuss a concept of Libertaria with you?
“It was a question and answer thread. I selected IMHO because that seemed to be where most of the Ask threads were settling and because, as I’ve said numerous times, it was not for a debate.”
How many times in your tenure on this board has a discussion/Q&A thread/whatever on a government system/lack of a government system properly gone in IMHO?
Perhaps. But if I had someone answering questions who, upon seeing that I was going to keep asking questions, told me to go to another room and wait for him/her to be there, I might just get discouraged and leave, especially if I felt my question(s) germane to the present discussion or of note to those also in the room with me.
“Dipshit. Your assumption that I looked at the asshole’s posts was in error.”
Given that you say you opened the thread partially at DCU’s request, it does not follow that you now say you didn’t look at his posts.
Libertarian, my respect for you has gone down tremendously over the past week or so. I doubt you care, and I’m beginning not to care myself, so I won’t waste my time elaborating.
Go back to GD Light where you believe you can give voice to your views without having them debated. Continue to believe that every disagreement or differing point of view is a grievous insult. You lack the tools for reasoned debate.
Dewey, Your OK in my book. If you are still job hunting in NYC, let me know and I’ll buy you drink.
if you set up an ‘ask a…’ your opening yourself up to ACTUALLY be asked things, if you don’t have good answers to any question asked, don’t blame the people asking them
Lib, that made absolutely no sense, but in light of your other comments in this thread (among others), perhaps in asking that I am asking too much of you;)
Take a breather, remember that it’s not the end of the world if a thread or post doesn’t go as you wish, and realize that some of us, when we ask question after question, either respect the person we’re asking enough to ask or have absolutely no respect for the person in question and are merely gathering ammunition.
I doubt DCU was doing the latter in that thread, though how much of his (and anyone else’s) respect you lost in that thread and in this thread is anyone’s guess.
And if you didn’t care, as you say in your OP you don’t, then why in the world did you care enough to open this thread? “I don’t care about you so much I’m going to go post about it! Nyah!”
Does Not Compute. But hey, if you believe you’re advancing your (or someone else’s) cause in these threads, and if nobody comes along to say “Lib, dude, you’re making us look bad. Chill, okay?”, then far be it for me to think you’re not on your intended path. I just don’t see the point.
