Dexter 09/26/10 My Bad...Spoilers inside

As soon as I saw Masuka, I was wondering if he could go one day without saying something inappropriate. Nope.

Deb was involved in Rita’s case when her husband beat her. It was established that she was the one who set them up. Dexter was interested because he just wanted some cover, and he was happy that she was too broken to want to be too intimate.
I had a hard time watching a lot of this episode, mostly the parts with the kids. How horrible and awkward must it be to have to tell your semi-adopted kids that their mother was brutally murdered for no reason? I actually had to stop and go do something else for a bit a few times.

Go to watch the premiere on Crackle.com.
I wasn’t left with a sense of urgency or excitement to add Showtime back onto my cable program. I would have been much more intrigued by Dexter actually going on the run for the one murder he didn’t commit.
The scene with Dexter telling the kids was painful… I kept thinking “somebody has got to take the mouse ears off of him.”

I think you’re right about that.

Does anyone know if there is an end to the series planned? Because a final season of Dexter on the run, still finding and dispatching serial killers, and maybe financing himself and hiding by assuming their IDs and bank accounts, would be a great ending.

Plus who wouldn’t want to get rid of those annoying kids?

Everyone on the show seemed to think it was weird that Dexter wasn’t all BAWLing at Rita being dead, but come on. Not everyone reacts to horrific tragedy the same way, and the way he was acting seemed pretty reasonable, even without knowing his whole emotionally crippled deal. He seemed like a guy who was in shock. About the only thing that did seem weird was telling the kids “Sorry for your loss”.

I forget, is that the first time Deb and Quinn bumped uglies?

I think so.

I hope it’s the last but I doubt I’d be so lucky. I agree with TBG about how people are weirded out that Dexter isn’t crying openly. If that is going to be what they base all their suspicion on for the rest of the season, I think I’m going to have to stop watching. It will get annoying way too fast.

I’m thinking maybe this latest unplanned murder will come back to bite him in the ass.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Interesting how in that scene they did not show any of the kids’ or grandparents’ reactions. The camera was on Dexter the whole time. Him keeping the ears on as you could hear their reactions’ really showed how inhuman Dexter was.

Yeah. Being completely numb to an unexpected death is normal. The whole way Dexter was reacting was textbook emotional shock. Sure, not everyone knows this, but homicide officers should.

Yup, it’s the first time Deb and Quinn have done anything sexual at all. I’m not surprised it’s happened, and it was a very Deb way of dealing with trauma. I love Deb so much.

Quinn isn’t after Dexter because he sees something ‘odd’ about him; it’s because Dexter saw Quinn pocketing money at a crime scene, and Quinn feels like Dexter’s got one over him. That’s what predisposes him to think the worst of Dexter.

Miami Metro aren’t going to think Dexter’s Trinity. The exact opposite is happening - they think he was pretending that this kill was by Trinity. Of course, if he really were going to pretend that, knowing all he does about Trinity, then he’d have pushed Rita off a building. I do wonder why the real Trinity did change his MO. Setting Dexter up?

Those definitely are Paul’s parents. Astor and Cody were visiting them while Dexter and Rita were supposed to have a (very short) belated honeymoon with only the baby along.

I think Astor gave Dexter a way to explain him saying ‘it was me’ (not ‘I did it’) - that it was his fault and he feels responsible because he should have been there to protect her. Of course, that is close to the reason he said it, but I don’t think the FBI would quite understand ‘I should’ve killed Arthur when I had the chance.’

I just realised something that I feel really stupid for not realising before: Dexter’s savage kill in the boat shack is very similar to Trinity’s ‘father of two’ kills.

Like the others said about that kill possibly coming back to bite him on the ass, this could make him look like a copycat Trinity killer, or OTOH it could get him off the hook because it’d look like it was Trinity changing his MO slightly (the man could still be a father of two, since that isn’t unusual, but he wasn’t positioned the same way).

I still don’t think they’d think he was the actual Trinity killer - he’s too young for a start, given how long ago Trinity started killing.

They wouldn’t think that Dexter was actually the Trinity killer because didn’t they i.d. Arthur Miller as Trinity at the end of last season? So there’s still presumably a manhunt for him because they don’t know that Dexter killed him.

Gives quinn’s obsession with Dexter, I wouldn’t be surprised if he discovers a tape of Arthur Miller entering the lab where Dexter works and the two of them shaking hands. Which would look bad for the copycat angle, I suppose…

Oh, and if we’re nitpicking…Deb and Quinn’s clothes should have been soaking wet, and blood-stained, had they cleaned that entire bathroom of blood.

(And speaking of odd behavior… )

Funny how Dexter keeps running into other serial killers. His brother, Trinity, and now the guy who picks up dead animals. Maybe I missed 1 or 2 others.

His brother hunted him down and Dexter hunted Trinity down from clues that Lundy had.

I think Lila is the only one he more or less stumbled across in day to day routines. And IIRC, I don’t think she had killed more than once when they met.

Don’t forget, he works in homicide and his mission statement is (or was) to take care of the people who slipped though the cracks of the justice system.

Well, he hunts them. He uses the resources of the police department to figure them out. Pretty much everyone else in the world would’ve never looked twice at the tiny blood spot in the truck.

I mean, yeah, it’s a coincidence, but it’s not out of character for him to be observant to the things that would lead him to find them, and he has the resources to figure it out.

Actually… let’s make a new thread.
