Oi, that sounds a but spoilerish. Maybe wait for the next thread or use the spoiler tag?
I’m glad to see him gone. He was pissing me off. But I doubt he totally out of the picture yet. Angel’s sister has the video that he said Dexter probably sent to her, that hand just showed back up that Vince caught Dexter looking for, his blood is on Dexter’s boat. He might be dead, but everyone is going to think that he just got fired and disappeared. At some point they’re going to start looking for him and these clues are going to start turning up. Deb’s lizard brain might start setting off alarms.
Also, the crane shot as Dexter jumped over the cemetery gate was really well done.
Good point, I flagged a mod to start a new thread and move this episode’s posts over.
Why don’t we just continue here until it happens so we don’t wind up with two threads that have to be merged.
Already done.
You’re moving way too fast for me tonight.
Sort of bizarre that they basically spent a season and a half building him up and then dispensed of him so quickly and without him really causing that much trouble. I wonder if they didn’t decide to ditch whatever the original plot was they had built up around him as a antagonist.
It’ll be interesting to see if he does continue to cause problems or if turns out to be an abandoned plot line. Especially since he was killed someone from one of the other plot lines.
I’m going to go with “abandoned plot line” here. I get the sense that Louis was meant to be another Doakes–a constant irritant for Dexter that he can’t simply kill because he doesn’t meet his code. They even go to the trouble of building him up as some kind of independently wealthy computer genius and romantically hook him up with Dexter’s babysitter so that he’ll be in a prime position to wreck havoc.
However, Doakes was a genuine badass though (man I miss him), and Louis never seem to rise above “petulant douche-nozzle” on the scale of villainy. First, his motives for revenge suck–he’s pissed because Dexter found his serial killer game “offensive.” Then all he ever does is get Dexter’s charge cards canceled and, inexplicably, mail a mannequin’s hand owned by the Ice Truck Killer to Dexter, even though he couldn’t possibly have known of any connection between the two (and I don’t buy the writers lame attempt to explain this as a “stupid joke”). Also, what kind of computer genius doesn’t have a screensaver password?
It’s my theory the writers decided his character wasn’t really working out so they just unceremoniously offed him and went in another direction. We’ll see how his death plays out in future episodes.
I’m liking Ray Stevenson so far as this season’s Big Bad. I am biased though as Rome is my favorite TV series and Titus Pullo was such an awesome character.
I think his video-diary mentioned he was planning on framing Dexter. Louis had framed a previous boss by putting childporn on his computer, and was planning on making it look like Dexter was stealing from the evidence locker to sell crime memorabilia on eBay. Dexter reverses the scheme and does the same thing to Louis.
But agree with your rest of your post. Louis was like a human version of Chekov’s gun.
And he even ended up like a redshirt.
not a “dead” plot line, as Louis’ death will cause problems for Dexter with Deb…
Yeah - the blood on the boat will most certainly be proven (by Deb?) to be that of Louis - and Dexter will have to prove he isn’t stupid enough to leave something like that on his own boat!
Up until now, Dexter has only had to deal with one psycho at a time - it will be interesting to see how he handles a mafia boss with goons who have him as a target. Will Dex take them all out, one at a time?
As they have already announced there will at least one more season, I don’t think we have to worry about Dex biting the dust soon…but somehow I wouldn’t be surprised if the big finale this season is DEB GETTING KILLED! Just speculation on my part, but boy would that make for one very pissed, and highly motivated, Dexter to get revenge.
Maybe Deb or Harrison will get… taken!
Ugh. This show has gone off the rails for me. I watch because I really like Michael C. Hall’s performance, but there are so many things going on that are so far beyond my ability to willingly suspend disbelief because they’re just…stupid. Buh.
I need to find the first and third seasons on DVD and light a memorial candle for the show that was.
It’s a good show, but Dexter has never been on a par with The Sopranos, The Wire, Mad Men, or Breaking Bad.
I’ve always had problems with the ensemble – they are all good enough actors but the characters have always been pretty much cardboard, never fully developed, and given their own plot lines only so that Hall doesn’t have to be on screen 50-55 minutes every week.
This year has some promise I think. But here’s the deal: Dexter is explaining to Deb about his “code,” and explicitly states that (and this has been said before) that he goes after killers that “fall through the cracks” or are let off on technicalities (you know, like the constitution). But I know that in the Trinity case, and perhaps one or two other times, Dexter took on an open case and planted_evidence specifically to throw the police and the FBI off the trail so that he could stalk the killer by himself.
I realize that being a serial murderer is marginally more serious than interfering with a police investigation in the real world, but Dexter has rationalized serial killing to himself (and now to Deb) as a way to get the killers who fall through the cracks. At what point does he explain to her that, when he feels like it, he also pries the cracks open and/or creates some new cracks…
Very true, but the much bigger issue is that (for all intents and purposes) Dex framed and killed Doakes to take the fall for him. That’s far more serious then throwing the cops off Trinity so he could finish the job himself. I don’t understand how or why Deb isn’t freaking the hell out about Dokes.
Dex did not kill Doakes -
1.) The body parts that were with Doakes was from one of Dex’s kills - he did possilby plan to leave them to be found with Doakes - but he never intended to kill him.
2.) The british chick - H.G. Wells - is the one that killed Doakes by setting the explosion.
ETA - of course, Deb nor anyone else other than Dex and the viewers know any of that.
Yeah, exactly. I referenced in last week’s thread that even though the “titty chick” (as Deb called her) did the actual killing, for all intents and purposes from Deb’s perspective Dex killed and framed Doakes.
Dex did more than leave body parts in the frame job. He planted his blood slide case in Doakes’ trunk.
I’m curious as to why the body of the dead hitman is still in the bay. You would think Dexter would set his kills to float (a la Scott Peterson) , so as to not draw attention, ESPECIALLY after the Bay Harbor Butcher fiasco?
