Dexter 11/11/07 -- open spoilers

Well, this episode sets things up nicely for an excellent finale. Anyone know how many episodes are left this season, or if the writers’ strike will affect the show?

Dexter played Doakes beautifully, but damn, is Dex going to have to kill him to get him to back off?

What’s gonna happen with Lila? Lots of ways this could end – none of them good.

I liked Rita tonight. She lost a lot of her neediness, standing up to her mom. That woman was scary.

I think “Pardon my tits” may be the greatest line ever on this show.

Also, I liked Deb’s Quality Awkward Moment with Lunde. Was interesting to see the dude get a bit flustered.

There were 12 episodes last season, and tonight’s was number 7 of season two, so I expect there will be 5 more.

I’m pretty sure Season 2 has finished filming, so the writer’s strike shouldn’t have an immediate impact. But if the strike continues, it would delay the start of filming for Season 3.

What are we to make of Lila’s light being fixed, and Dexter noticing it? It didn’t appear that she was blaming the fire on faulty wiring. Did I miss something?

We know that Dexter is worth $18,000 to her anyway.

Can we assume Dexter will be suspicious of Lila now? She admitted setting her ex-boyfriend’s house on fire. She called him when she knew he’d be at school with Rita and the kids.

I don’t want Dexter to kill her.

My take on it is that Dexter saw that her tactic of breaking the landlord’s light got her what she wanted. He may have realized in that moment that she’s not above destroying things to get her way… standing outside the smoking ruin of her house, thinking about blowing off her call to be with Rita, thinking about her history of arson. At least, I HOPE that’s what it meant. I hope Dexter runs away as fast as he can, but you know she’s not going to let him go easy. He may have to chop her into little pieces by the end of the season. Here’s hoping.

I want somebody to do it.

Lots of interplay - I like how Lundy saw thru the Manifesto, what I can’t decide is if Dexter counted on that or not.

Dex so totally played Doakes - pretty sure that it won’t go quite the way Dex wanted - Doakes now has ‘more time’ on his hands to follow him.

Re-watched last weeks also - Dex did not take his trophy from the vigilante - and he literally deleted the video ‘file’ - without searching for it or anything - “Like it never happened’ - so there was no swapping of files - one would think that the folks watching the streams would notice a 30 minute (assumed) 'glitch”.

Only 5 more? Man this is going by too fast.

It seems as if Dexter is going to end up killing someone he knows.

Lila is my personal favorite, as it seems Dex is becoming aware that someone else can be as evil as he believes himself to be. She might well end up attempting to kill him, and it would be interesting if he got busted for a killing that actually was self defense.

Doakes is a good candidate – he will completely hound Dexter now, unless he decides on a direct assault to try to beat the truth out of him. Somehow, though, I just can’t see Dexter killing him, except in self-defense.

I was really kinda hopin’ he would kill the old lady, but that hope is fading as Rita seems to be coping.

Oh, what fun. Who will he kill next?

Dex seems to be floundering in his attempts to throw off the investigation of the Butcher. He would be far better off sticking to what he does best – clean ritual killings with the revised burial at sea.

I’m really surprised that he has taken any of this counseling BS to heart, even when packaged up with Lila. I mean, he made the whole thing up on the spur of the moment to cover up his lies to Rita, and then he goes and gets all serious about it. This part of the show isn’t rining true to me.

My favorite line tonight? Deb saying, “Who’s the skank?”

I had this wild thought that Lundy, or even Doakes, will figure it out and give him a pass because they like who he’s killing.

You know, not all relationship problems can be solved with tape, baggies and surgical saws.

Yeah, but if you throw in shower caps, plastic wrap, and surgical gloves, you’ve pretty much got them all covered.

Hmm. Fair point.

This season has to end with Dex framing someone, doesn’t it? He can’t get caught, and they’re not just going to pack up the investigation and go away.

Does anyone remember if Doakes killed that ex-army buddy in a boat that was harbored in Dexter’s harbor? I’m guessing Doakes gets framed, and Lila gets the Dexter treatment. His blood drop collection would also make planting evidence easier.

Also, if evidence does eventually point to Dexter, he’s done a good job of setting up Doakes as an unstable person with a personal vendetta. Which he is, even if he’s right heh.

Oh Deb. Deb and her daddy issues. That she goes from “he’s like my father” to macking on Lundy in the space of an episode speaks volumes about how fucked up she really is.

Between **“Pardon my tits” **and “Who’s the skank?” it’s a complete tossup for the best line of the night.

I think the last episode is bound to be Lila attempting to harm or kill Dexter and getting the surprise of her life as he cuts her into little pieces.

Has there ever been any real explanation for Doak’s animosity toward Dexter? I watched Season 1 on DVD and the hatred and suspicion seemed to be there right from the get-go.

I think it’s just that he is the only person with a gut instinct of what type of person Dexter is. He knows there is something “wrong” with him.

Great episode, again- I am a bit scared of a Doakes that know has a concrete reason to get back at Dexter. I found out I was right to hate Lila (with the passion of a thousand suns I tell you!) and hope she makes a chopped up exit soon. Glad to see Rita stand up for herself and the kids, she can be annoying but at least she isn’t an evil arsonist bitch.

I was cringing at the Deb/Daddy Lundy scene though- although I can see the attraction on both sides, Deb is hard to watch sometimes. I thought for just a minute though, when she was on her treadmill with the Chopin, her eyes were going to widen and she was going to see the “Truth” Lundy was talking about- that the killer was Dexter. A stretch, but I had a “whew!” moment nonetheless.

That was my take on the light bulb too. I see Rita’s house burning down in the near future. I wonder if Lila is going to look hot in plastic wrap?

I think Dexter’s love for his step program results reached a peak between episodes or during this one. By the end of this episode, he was starting to see flaws with the way things are working out. I’m guessing this is only going to get worse when he discoveries that the manifesto backfired leading the case closer to him. Also, Doakes now has more free time. Dexter felt like he was taking control, but he was really just being more reckless. Btw, shouldn’t Doakes have had a big old welt on his head from the head butt? I can’t say that I’m liking the new Dexter (although I’m digging all the Lila nakedditity!). The way he manipulated Doakes with the case just wasn’t right.

Doakes actually has all the pieces in front of him to figure out Dex’s secret identity. He knows something was up with Dex, Deb, and the Ice Truck Killer. He knows something was up with Dex’s childhood. It’s setup for Doakes to make the connection between Dex and the ITK and then figure things out, but not have the credibility to do anything about it. I hope they don’t go that way though. That knowledge would have to end with either Doakes or Dexter dead or a switch to what they have established about Doakes’ character. Either way it would seem cheap. I really don’t want Dex to have to kill Doakes. I kind of like the miserable son of a bitch.

Deb needed to STFU when she found Lila in the apartment. Her comments about Dex cheating on Rita weren’t right. And skank? Possibly true, but pot, kettle. Kettle, pot.

Do you think the reason that Dexter’s (adopted) father took only Dex out of that train car, because, since he was having an affair with Dex’s mother, that he took Dex because he is Dex’s REAL father?
He left Dex’s brother in the train car, but only took Dex out of there.

If this has been rehashed already, I’m sorry about asking. I don’t recall it in past posts, though.

Am I the only person who had a light go on when Lundy wrote “Law Enforcement Background” on the white board?

Hmmm… I wonder who would be a loose cannon (formerly) in law enforcement could be?

No, Harry wasn’t Dex’s biological father. It was established last season that Dex and his biological father both had type AB blood.

Ah, Ok. Thanks, Maus Magill.
Did they ever say what type Harry’s blood was, then?
Still…why the hell did he only take Dex, and not the older boy?
There must be something to that, but I’ll be damned if I can figure out what it was.

It was established that harry thought Dex could be saved, but he saw ‘something’ in Rudy that precluded that thougt - either a look or an action - but it was never discussed beyond that. Rudy was then either in foster care or directly to a mental hospital.

Dex’s paternatity was established not only by blood type, but when Dex was hurt, the only blood that could be transfused was of the true father (not Harry’s).
