I thought for sure Maria was going to just tell Doakes to play along with leaving Dexter alone but she was fairly adament about it. I doubt Doakes will play along. I wonder if Dexter will find out something about Doakes to hold over him or to create his downfall. Doakes has got a headstart on a career toilet already with two shootings without any witness.
I was really, really hoping Dexter would kill Lila. I don’t know that I like Rita any more but I really hate Lila. With a burning passion of a thousand suns. I think he made a bad move in killing the vigilante. Like Lundy said- this was the first time they had an actual Bay Harbor Butcher crime scene. Plus- it seemed desperate- and his chances of making a crucial mistake are worse than normal.
I was also hoping he would counter-dump Rita- as much as I hate the other one, Rita is annoying and a walking wounded idiot. I just feel bad for Dexter and the kids- he’s obviously attached to them.
Dexter is screwing up, big-time. Not just murdering that vigilante-wannabe, though that was grade-A stupid. Little things, too - like flipping the fire alarm. It made sense - but for Pete’s sake, man, don’t use your bare fingers to do it! How often do people touch those alarms? If anyone gets curious about the Mystery Fire Drill and actually checks for prints, Dexter will have some explaining to do.
The promo for next week looks interesting - it seems that Dexter’s gonna provoke Doakes into publicly beating on him. That’s a good idea - Doakes is wound way too tight, and everybody in his department knows it.
He had to kill the vigilante. If he hadn’t and the guy had actually killed someone then the investigation would have moved away from Miami Metro, an environment he can access and to an extent control, to the FBI where he has no access and no control. Agreed that he’s making mistakes that he shouldn’t, like the fire alarm (and also the computer keyboard while deleting the video). Speaking of which, I hope he deleted more than just his own video. One missing video sequence that just happens to show his boat is going to raise suspicions.
I’m liking Deb more this season. I’m interested in the relationship that’s developing between her and Lundy. She’s projecting all her daddy issues onto him and he’s either oblivious or simply doesn’t care.
While I appreciate Lila to the extent that any reason for Dexter to get his kit off is a good thing, I really hate her and wish she would go away. I don’t care if Dexter kills her or not, just so long as she is gone.
Maria is just a little too crazy for me - or Dexter that is. He ain’t dumb, she is trouble with a capital T, and it is a stretch of disbelief that he didn’t see that from the start. I do like his ending up screwing her, but Rita was also a link to the real world. It seems to me that if Dex told Maria his secrect, she would want to go along on the next mission. I suspect that Maria may end up in a matched set of garbage bags before this season is over. Doakes may end up a Cassandra - he knows what is going on, but nobody will ever believe him and he can’t prove it. But he is not (at least not yet) really a bad guy - what will Dexter do with him?
I’m surprised at all the hatred for Lila…I absolutely love her (but a well known fact about me is that I tend to date borderline psychotic woman - so maybe I’m not the best test case). I find her fascinating and whats more is that she is the reason he is going to get away with all of this. She seemed fascinated by the bay city butcher at the beginning of their relationship. Something is up with that woman…
Maybe it makes me a bad person, but when Dexter answered Rita’s question about sleeping with Lila with “Not that time”, I yelled "Yes!’ at my TV. Rita saying “I can’t take any more of this!” made me go “Huh?”. What has she been “taking”? Unless Dexter did something in one of the episodes I missed (two), he’s been nothing but thoughtful and considerate, to her and to the kids. And to her mother. Geezopeter!
I don’t care for Lila but it’s the writers’ fault. They put the most cliched words in her mouth. Everything she says comes off like something she saw in a Lifetime channel movie.
I loved that Dexter worries about why Lundy wants him around all the time, and it turns out that Lundy just hates Masaka.
I could have made this exact same post… both parts. That said, I’ll stick my prediction from earlier in the season. Either she or Lundy will be under Dex’s knife sooner or later.
Dex is definitely getting sloppy. He’s no longer in control of things though and is having to react to a fluid situation instead of relying on cold calculation. It’s making things faster paced.
I like the idea of the character but I don’t like the implementation of it. It just rings false notes over and over again. Now maybe if she has some hidden agenda that is revealed with appropriate dramatic flourish then the false notes might start making more sense but as it stands now, no.
Put me in the “I love like Lila” camp. About her talking in cliches; if she’s been in a 12 Step program for a while, she IS going to talk in cliches. Makes total sense to me. Plus, (at the risk of reinforcing another cliche) she’s easy on the eyes.
That’s a good point. Now that she’s slept with Dexter, maybe she’ll start relating to him as a person rather than as a project, and her dialogue will be a bit more natural, and maybe revealing.
