Dexter 10/17/2010 Beauty and the Beast

So, I’m still going with the “Quinn is the new Doakes” theory, and it seems that Lumen is the new Miguel (Jimmy Smits) but I’m guessing she’s going to take it a step further. Dexter will do the first one, she’ll help with the second and beyond that she’ll be the new Taxi Driver, cleaning up the streets but leaving a carnage in her wake. At some point Dexter will have to take her out, like Miguel, she’ll be out of control and he’ll have to deal with it. If we go that route, I’m guessing Harry will be overly involved as well.

Also, I think it’s safe to assume that the suspension (and the free time) will light a fire under Quinn. I don’t see him dropping this anytime soon. I wonder if he’ll find out about Lumen.

Man, Debra just does not get a break.

So, is that IA guy angling to blackmail a blowjob from LaGuerta?

There were a few thing that didn’t ring true. The whole showing Dexter’s pic to the family. Especially since Quinn got caught, why didn’t he press on and insist it get shown to the whole family.

And also – the prison/isolated house. Dex could bust out with one good body shot against the door? But none of the other victims could, or maybe never tried?

I’m thinking Jonah will tell the FBI guy that the picture was Kyle Butler. My question is, why did the FBI guy burst into the store and start yelling at Quinn? I can’t imagine they arrest anyone who talks to them. The only thing I can think of is that the guy that Quinn kept talking to told his partner to keep an eye out for him and arrest him if he tries to contact the family.

I wondered that as well. I’m guessing she never tried, why would she. She’s small, she’s weak and she presumably heard the padlock each time he left.

ETA, yeah, I think the IA guy was suggestion he’d make the whole thing go away for a blowjob. Hopefully LaGuerta is smart enough to set him up though. Maybe have record the conversation (c’mon, let’s do this in the interrogation room) or to get around illegally recording someone, have a witness (or two) hiding in a closet. And I hope she’s smart enough not to have the witness be Angel, no one’s going to believe him, what with the conflict of interest and all.

My take on this scene was that he was suggesting she’d blown her way through the department to get her position. But I like your idea better.

Lumen was being held at the abandoned tourist’s center Dex had picked out previously, for Boyd’s murder.

I had the same thought, though, but let it slide since she was feverish and very strong looking.

I think Laguerta blew her way out of Cuba and through the whole of Miami. Maybe that was her nickname – “The Hole of Miami”. :stuck_out_tongue:

What I got out of that, was that the specific hospital patient had at one time long in the past gotten a blowjob from her, and nothing more.

Well, we saw him in handcuffs and then in his boss’s office. And she specifically mentioned that the kid didn’t tell his FBI guy that he recognized the pic. So if showing the pic was going to work, it would have already, and didn’t.

Only one person has ever been confined there, and they obviously heard the padlock. They tried the “I killed myself ploy” instead. I’m not sure why they didn’t break the windows first but hey…

But then she asks if that’s part of the official record, and he asks, “Should it be”. I read that as saying “It isn’t yet”, or “It doesn’t have to be”, and she can do something to convince him not to make it so.

There’s also Trinity’s wife. Isn’t there a daughter too? All of whom saw Dexter.

Right now I failing to recall exactly how Dex picked the building, but clearly she was already in it. And there had been others, And she’d been prisoner long enough to not be sure anymore how long she’s been a prisoner. Honestly I didn’t even think about windows, and I wouldn’t have thought about the door either if Dex hadn’t busted through it so easily,

I think they skipped part of the timeline. He picked that room to kill Dead Animal Guy, but things didn’t go so well so he took care of DAG at DAG’s house. It was there that Lumen spotted him. At some point he transported her pack to the rec center. They really didn’t make this clear (to me at least) until she had escaped and was going through the hole in the fence that we’ve seen Dexter go through so many times.

And can we talk about the name Lumen? Lumen = Light, I think it’s a pretty safe bet that it wasn’t an accident.

Yep. Jonah wouldn’t know why Quinn wanted him to ID the photo, but he might feel protective of Kyle, as some who befriended him, tried to help the family.

It’ll be interesting to see how this works out. I don’t think Quinn will give up. It’s good that he went for Jonah and not the wife or daughter. If I remember right (and I often don’t), they reacted badly toward Kyle/Dex when he and Arthur had that fight. “Don’t hurt my daddy!”

I don’t remember Lopez saying anything to Angel about a blow job, at the bar. He said “sugar momma” and Angel blew up. So either the IA guy heard it from Lopez later and wants to get some, or he’s making it up, hoping to get some. All Maria has to do is string him along and wear a wire and the investigation will be over.

And the investigation is a stretch anyway. Like Maria said, it’s two cops in a bar fight. They should both be in trouble, or neither of them should be in trouble.

Julia Stiles looked really familiar but I checked IMdB and I haven’t seen a single thing she’s done.

Is DAG’s body still in his house?

Also, it seemed like after Dex convinced the nanny to give him another chance, he was gone again for a long time. He’s going to screw that up.

At least we can stop speculating that the nanny is more than a nanny.

Why are the Fuentes boys killing those people?

I believe Lopez said something (presumably the blowjob comment) in Spanish before be made the English comment.

Angel mentioned the blowjob when discussing the fight to Maria, so it happened, and the vibe I got from their meeting was definitely that the IA guy was wanting to see if her skill is as great as advertised.

From what I’m understanding, they’re killing anyone who knows too much or has talked to the cops. Hence the symbolic removing of the eyes and tongue.

Yes, the guy defintiely mentioned her giving great blowjobs, and said something about her being a fine piece of ass.

AuntiPam, you haven’t seen any of the Bourne movies. Julia Stiles was in at least the last one, maybe a couple of them. I’m always mixing up Julia Stiles with Elizabeth Rohm.

The location change was definitely confusing. Another clue, though, is that it was covered in plastic, like Dex’s usual M.O., where Boyd’s house required improvised use of newspapers. Between eps Dex must’ve disposed of Boyd’s remains and moved Lumen to the original kill site. They really should’ve made it clearer.

Lumen definitely wasn’t being held in the building (I couldn’t tell if Dexter was sincere when he called it a tourist info center) before, because he told her that she saw what he did “back at the house.”

So what do people think, Lumen is to be: a new protege, eventually Mrs. Morgan 2.0…or both? I like the last idea best, because Dexter would really enjoy having someone he could be himself around.

I don’t see her as learning to be a killer, but I do see Dexter as killing at her direction. It will all fall apart when she orders him to kill the waitress who didn’t refill her water glass fast enough. :stuck_out_tongue:

I thought Dexter killed Roadkill Guy at Roadkill Guy’s house. There’s no doubt about that, because Lumen saw him do it – she was looking through a small mesh screen in the door. Dexter took Lumen to the deserted tourist center, which he’d set up for the Roadkill Guy. (Or what TBG said.)

Based just on the “guest star” billing, I don’t think she’ll be around past this season. Dexter won’t want her to meet Deb, or Harrison. She might ride off into the sunset though, with notches in her gun.

She’s probably most famous for the teen romantic comedy 10 Things I hate About You with Heath Ledger. It was basically a modern-day Taming of the Shrew set in a highschool. That’s actually a theme with her, since she also did a modern-day version of Othello set in a highschool called O with Mekhi Phifer and Josh Harttnett.

Are you sure you didn’t see her in Edmond? That’s the one where William H. Macy walks around NYC going nutso. She playedthe chick who sleeps with him, after which he stabs her in her kitchen.

Huh. I got it immediately; there was plastic sheeting everywhere, so I knew it was the kill room at the abandoned tourist center he never got to use due to the unfortunate tranq gun incident.

As for why she didn’t try to bust the door down… having been very recently described as having a fever too high to think straight, and at most having access to the antibiotics (if she even took them) for what, a day? I imagine she wasn’t really feelin’ the strength to kick a door down.
