But then the show would be sooo boring!
Haven’t read the books – loving the show…
Rudy told Deb he went into the prosthetics game because he wanted to help his mom who had lost both her legs in an accident (car/truck…I don’t recall) Then he tells Dexter that his mom was killed by a truck at the mailbox. Something’s not right about Rudy :dubious:
My WAG:
Dexter’s Bio Dad was driving the truck which killed/maimed Rudy’s mother, and he was under the influence of narcotics. Rudy’s dad used the chainsaw in a fit of revenge, but it doesn’t look like he managed to actually kill the father. Perhaps he was interrupted? But why would the kid (Dexter) sit in a room full of blood for any length of time if the massacre was interrupted. Maybe the killer wanted the man to live. This would explain the old man’s willingness to give up his son and take an oath of rigid sobriety.
It’s not an elegant answer, and I’m hoping I’m wrong.
The woman whom Angel met in the nightclub is critical. It sounds like she met Rudy before he started the killings, and can identify him. I was surprised that Angel just gave her his business card and asked her to call him if she remembered anything else. I would have immediately put her in a room with a sketch artist. Now that Rudy knows about her, he’s probably going to try to kill her (if he can find her).
Oh I forgot to ask if anyone else noticed the fairy tale that Rita was reading to the kids in episode 9?
Pinocchio.
Clever!
I am not laughing as I too thought, “could that be his brother? That would explain how he found the father and killed him.”
Assuming that were to be true, will be interesting to see if Dexter would kill his brother - and even though adopted, his brother having relations with his sister would still carry some “ick” factor for Dexter, although in this show, “ick” is pretty much the norm…
Still - I love this show and glad to hear it has already been picked up for another season!
Am I the only one who was telling Deb to not get on the boat?
No way! Although my girlfriend was watching with me and muttered, “I wouldn’t be entirely sorry if she got hacked to bits” - it’s true, she’s beyond annoying. And it seems Dexter’s Perils of Pauline girlfriend has to call him in hysterics at least once an episode. He’s gotta be thinking he was better off avoiding the whole relationship thing. Or at least be wanting to ditch his cell phone.
The last 2 episodes have been really creepy. Dexter’s becoming less and less of a killer I think. He’s out of his league with the Ice Truck Killer. I’ll bet he’s wishing he’d waited a couple of sessions to off that shrink…
Snort.
I don’t understand Rudy’s motivation in taking Deb and setting up a confrontation with Dexter. Anyone else getting a Highlander vibe?
I don’t think Dex is becoming any less of a Serial Killer, he’s just starting to explore the feelings that he’s repressed all these years… that and the ITK has thrown him off his ‘game’ a little with some of the things he’s done.
I also don’t think Rudy is any more competent when it comes to this game than Dex is… it’s just in this case Rudy has more knowledge of Dex than Dex of Rudy, and that gives Rudy all the power.
I’m very intrigued as to what the finale will bring us… the preview had so much in it I don’t see how they can do all taht in an hour.
No highlander vibe… but Rudy probably knows that on equal footing, Dex will win… him taking Deb and “setting it up” keeps him “one step ahead” of Dex, and in a control.
If Rudy is taken alive, doesn’t he pose the risk of revealing that Dexter is a serial killer? So I think Dexter will try to get to him one-on-one, so he can kill him (perhaps in the guise of arresting him) before Rudy talks.
Dexter can’t really get him under the guise of an arrest (other than a citizen’s arrest, I suppose) because Dexter isn’t a police officer. He’s a crime lab technician.
Was I the only one who wanted Deb to take one look at the “engagement ring” and be like “oh no. Uh uh baby, you expect me to marry you and you’re handing me that piece of shit?”
Actually, I thought Debbie might have recognized the ring, since it belonged to his most recent victim, a prostitute, and she knew most of the local ones.
And I realize that Dexter can’t arrest Rudy, but I don’t think he can afford to leave Rudy alive.
Wow - remember how in the first episode, Dexter said of Deb “She’s the only person who cares about me. I think that’s sweet. If I had feelings, I’d have them for her”?
If he’s not genuinely worried about his lil’ sis, I’m a monkey’s uncle. The dude is panicked.
Out of curiosity - am I the only one who doesn’t mind Deb? Rita’s annoying, yah, but Deb doesn’t bother me.
Rudy doesn’t really have anything on Dexter, evidence-wise. He can say Dexter is a serial killer, but he’s not gonna have a lot of credibility. The only physical evidence is the blood slides which aren’t worth much. His victims aren’t unsolved homicides, they’re missing persons cases.
Which is an area where we have to suspend disbelief. How on earth would Rudy have known Dex was a serial killer? Dex never left a crime scene. No bodies, or parts of bodies, were ever found except for the coyote’s wife. And that one had me rolling my eyes. Even if Rudy had seen Dexter dump the body in the ocean and seen it’s exact location, retrieving it would have been chore. But there were no boats around when he dumped her. There is no way in Hell that he found the body, pulled it up from the ocean floor, and returned it to the crime scene.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say, yeah, you’re the only one .
Actually, she has enough minor imperfections to be really hot (if that makes sense). I can put up with a little annoyance for that. I don’t mind Rita either. She has a serious librarian thing going on (in a good way). I’ll be in my bunk…
I didn’t mention it last week (ep. 10), but I loved the part where the detectives are all sitting around the office discussing something, Dexter narrates/thinks something dark, and Doake’s says, “what did you say?” That episode had another great Michael Hall moment. The look on his face after he smacked Paul with the frying pan was priceless.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to the last episode. Doakes and Dexter will have to have a confrontation, but I’m thinking it might not play out the way the preview suggested. Speaking of which, although Dexter gives Doakes the creeps, Doakes did meet Rudy and didn’t think anything of him. I mentioned it before, but Dexter’s ability failed him with Rudy too. Then at the end Rudy was giving Deb crap about not being able to sense how close she was to a murderer.
I’m less than convinced that this “sensing killers” thing is anything that should be taken seriously. If there was some inate ability to sense killers then someone like a Ted Bundy or a Jeffrey Dahmer couldn’t have had the success they had in picking off victims who weren’t of the prostitute/drifter variety. I think Doakes just doesn’t like Dexter.
In real life I don’t really take it seriously. In a fictional show, I don’t mind them spoofing with it regardless of them being serious or not. Dexter however has said enough to make us (the viewers) think that he believes in it.
I’m thinking (for the sake of the show) that the explanation regarding Dex’s sense of being in the presence of a killer is real. He was unable to sense this in Rudy because at the time of meeting Rudy Dex was grossly distracted by his growing relationship with Rita, trying to figure out what to do with Paul, his sister harping on him to be more “brotherly” to her, and the issues with his dad lying to him about his bioligical father.
These are things he normally kept at bay, allowing him to be meticulous and calculated. Now, he’s being hit with all of these relationship things at once. This is not something our loner is used to.
