Diablo 2 content patch next week

:: nostalgia ::

I remember having members of our party suddenly freeze while being chopped to bits and then disappear from the game, only to appear a few minutes later, a victim of vicious lag. Sometimes enough members would drop out of the game at once to affect the rest of us and the whole party would end up slaughtered. Good times.

Sounds about right.

Completely unplayable again tonight.

Not unplayable, just REALLY annoying… I’m at about 150 on the necro ladder on US East, so getting stuff done.

That just means it’s really annoying for all the other necros, too.

Good news, they are fixing the roll back exploit, game is much more stable now.

I’d like to use this post to commemorate our first Annihilus charm of the new ladder. Huzzah!

Wow I’ve still never even seen uber Diablo. I wish they’d change the mechanic to something more reliable like the uber Tristram one.

I hadn’t either. We got lucky and had a member in a game where Uber Diablo happened to walk.

How hard is he? Comparable to the ubers in Tristram?

Anyone know why Raise Skeleton reports different damages in the hotkey tooltip than in the skill tree tooltip? And which is right? I’ve played a lot of necros but I had never noticed this, or heard of it, before. The skill tree reports about 10 more damage, 230ish, than the hotkey, 220ish. Nowhere near a big enough difference to chalk it up to not reporting the synergies or my +skills or anything obvious like that.

Once we got prepped, we beat him in less than a minute, no sweat. I’ve never been to Uber Tristram, so I can’t say. That was with four in the party, I think- a summoning Necromancer, a Zealot, a Barbarian, and a Sorceress with Enchant.

Wasn’t very easy before you got there though. My necro, the barb, and the enchantress just couldn’t do it on our own. My necro god Maulers as revives for their Crushing Blow, and we were able to sliver him. But we just couldn’t actually kill him.

New rune drop rate is encouraging. My (off-ladder, not ready to do this on the new ladder yet) specialist Hell Countess runner got:

Lum
Lem
Mal
Mal
Shael
Shael
Sol
Dol
Amn
Amn
Ort
Ort
Ort

in just ten runs last night. Some of those were from incidental kills enroute, not all from the Countess herself, but I figure that counts as a “Countess run.”

As a person that has owned Diablo 2 since the day it came out, and never even finished a normal run (damn game-ADD) how the heck are you all already doing Hell runs on the ladder?

He’s either insanely easy or insanely hard, depending on what characters/builds you have. If you don’t have a paladin in your party, it’ll be a gruelling fight for a full complement of eight players. If you do, though, it’s not too hard. He’s pretty close to equivalent to the version of Diablo in Uber-Tristram, but Uber-Tristram is harder overall because of the presence of the other two: Any one individually can be done, but things go bad pretty quickly if you accidentally wake up more than one at a time.

Things go a lot more quickly in multiplayer. Every character and build will have parts of the game that give them a lot of trouble and slow them down, but those parts are different for every character. So, for instance, the sorc or amazon in the party can do the work of clearing out large masses of weak critters (which takes a long time for a melee character), while the barbarian or paladin tanks hard-hitters like Duriel (which are nigh-impossible for the non-melee characters). Plus, of course, once you get experience with the game you learn shortcuts: Which way to go in certain places, which areas to just run or teleport straight through without bothering with kills, etc. And once you have one character through the game, it’s easy for that one character to rush others (going to the appropriate WPs for the various quests, opening portals, and helping lower level characters kill the quest bosses).

Hey C, don’t know if you still need them or not, but I found a magefist while doing some baal runs. They are on my necro. Also, found another Gheed’s, the one I found was a 38%, so kept it, put the extra 21% I had on the enchantress.

Off to watch the Braves play tonight, so won’t be able to give them to you in game, my account has the regular team pass.

Yes, I do need them still, thanks. I did, however, find a Kuko the other day, which meets my top priority (Demon Machine would still be an upgrade, but Kuko’s nearly as good). This leaves a skill armor (and maybe a +2 or +3 circlet) as the only item still on the enchantress’s wish list.

I also have a couple of items for you on the enchantress: An amulet with pretty good MF and +1 necro skills, and a small charm with MF and poison resistance. I’ll swap those over when I grab the gloves.

My amazon is now level 40 and still in norm, which means that we could use her to rush a few mules into Hell. When would be a good time to get a lot of us on at once?

I have a test in the morning, but that’s my only one this week. I should be available tomorrow night, and Thursday night. My weekend is iffy, and can’t promise anything Friday or Saturday.

Wednesday’s better than Thursday.
