All Diablo2 Talk here.........

hehe, yea… I started a new thread, since that other “cow lvl” one was hijacked ages ago for general D2 discussion.

to Chronos

I don’t think it is available on Mac… Did you read the links i directed in the other post?

http://forums.rpgforums.net/showthread.php?threadid=144104

I really haven’t but to my recollection it isn’t available on Mac. There is a file that can allow you to mule legitly without a character editor. It’s an altered version of a D2 file that’s part of game.exe. Let me find it…here it is

the d2gfx.dll file needs to be altered. Instructions are at the link. But not sure if that file is for Mac users. There is a link for Mac users but doesn’t seem to lead anywhere. Read that page to help yourself out in Single Player play.

Oh and did you check that Shadowmaster link of mine?

http://home1.tiscalinet.de/shadowgate/

I’m not sure if that program can handle Mac, but there might be something there. Again I don’t know, because I’m on a PC and couldn’t care less of Mac editors.

Are you playing D2 with the latest patch? Most d2 sites like

http://www.diabloii.net and http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/

are for the latest patch 1.09d or generally 1.09.

Crafts, runewords, cubing recipes and the like are for 1.09. If you just installed d2 on ur cpu and didnt log on to battle.net or upgrade to 1.09d then all the recipes and item stats are totally different. I think dii.net has the old recipes listed there but, it is set up for 1.09d stats, etc…

If you have other questions on the DiabloII game, feel free to ask. I’m quite the uncy Cecil of diablo2, or in realistic terms I’m a D2 nerd.

And on a final note, some of us Dopers hang out in the channel SDMB

I play on the realm USEast. And I’ll eventually see you guys there, or I hope.

Just stopping by to say “Hi”.

Loves me some D2.

1.10
1.10
1 dot freaking 10

jeez Blizzard

See, at this point Jesus will get back in time to download 1.10.

– Dragonblink, who plays mainly on USWest

[fingers crossed]1.10 and a realm wipe…1.10 and a realm wipe…1.10 and a realm wipe…[/fc]

hrh

So many people have so much time invested in that game that there is just no way they will do a realm wipe under any circumstance. The # of players would drop of badly and I doubt that the # of players that would “come back” once things got straightened out would even it out at all.

The best you can hope for is them adding another realm.

But its all kinda of a moot point because 1.10 is never going to come. No company needs a year to make one patch, and neither does blizzard because they just stopped messing with it last year I bet.

Its not just a patch. it will change the way the game is played. gameplay.

I hope.

gasp no 1.10! Stinkpalm have faith in blizzard… According to Blizzard the patch is in testing phase and needs extensive work as it is changing / touching every aspect of the game play from items and skills to realms. Not to mention the fact that most developers were working on Warcraft 3, then the expansion pack, and all the talk of the online world. (IMHO they should have went with the Diablo world for an online game.)

I apologize in advance for the lengthy post…

Alot to guess about and be hopeful for with the patch. Here are a few of my WISHES (ive not read that any of these were even being developed I am just hoping):

Mercs

  • Commandable (follow me, guard him, go to that shrine, open that door, attack him, stay here, and define limits on how aggressive to be)
  • Full inventory (rings, gloves belts and a small inventory to hold items. Maybe half the size of your character’s.)
  • More skills and a viewable character sheet much like the one the characters have.
  • Items worn change their appearance
  • Can equip any item type that they meet the requirements for.
  • To offset their new power they would be more expensive and require an upkeep that would accumulate (hourly ?) like debt once it got to a certain point they would leave and go to the tavern until you came by and paid them the back money that you owe.
  • Can hire multiple mercs (see above: if you can afford it)
  • Can hire other merc types than just the 4 basics.
  • Would basicly like to see a merc with the same exact capabilities as the normal player character.

items

  • New items
  • All skills can appear as item charges and with higher possible levels and percent chance of them “firing” (i.e. raise skeleton charges on a sword, prayer aura on a ring, or 20% chance to level 10 bash on attack)
  • Better but less common magic items and the types of magics are not limited by item type and a higher potential % chance for skills / spell effects. (i.e. 50% chance cast level 20 charged bolt when struck)
  • The above would also apply to charms as well, and the size of the charm is not a limit on what can appear on it. (small charm of +2 summoning skills)
  • Better item / crafting customization. The runes, gems and jewels are a good start, just allow all types of magics to appear on the jewels (i.e. plus to skills etc.) and a way to combine jewels so that they add to each other.
  • Sockets in all item types: gloves, boots, belts, rings, and amulets.
  • All items should be unidentified as they fall on the ground special charms would give you the ability to “detect magic” and / or quality. (i.e superior vs damaged etc.)
  • Cursed items. Items could have super powers and super magic on them but curses as well. Not just -1 to light radius or -10 to life etc. This could be the most interesting aspect of all my ideas, take any magic effect and reverse the intended target. cursed damage could be damage to self, cursed leach would be heal monster, cursed iron maiden would be iron maiden on your self, Summon skeleton would summon a skeleton that attacks you instead of for you. These curses would not be shown on the items description unless a random specific character NPC or PC in the game identified the item. And obviously you could not unequip the item until you were cured somehow, by Fara in act 2, by a Paladin or some other means.

Economy

  • A new economy where the form of currency is ‘keys’ in stead of SOJ. Locked chests would hold special treasures with a much greater chance for nice treasures. The quality of the drop would be equal to the level of the character that opened the chest. Keys are sold in town for 100,000 gold a piece, only purchasable by characters under a certain level and the chances of keys dropping go way down for higher level characters but are considerably higher for lower level characters. This would give low level characters bargaining power for higher level items while at the same time giving higher level characters a new means to enjoy the game by finding these new locked chests and killing the tough monsters near them.

General

  • Buy a house that is expensive requires upkeep like the Mercs and hold considerably more items than the stash does.
  • Characters that die in Hard Core on realms can come back as hirelings or even ghosts (a la Nethack)
  • Ability to multiclass a character. i.e. pick any 3 different skill trees. How about you just make that another character altogether. A bard perhaps? And dont forget to make it to where you can hire him as a merc also!

MAN I could do this all night so I am gonna stop now.

Aw crap, am I gonna have to start playing this again? It ate up so much free time. It was easy when I was in grad school but I have a respectable 9 to 5 job now.

I need to commit to an online game already. TFC is wearing thin, and I got at least a month and a half before Planetside comes out. I wonder if my Barb is still floating around…

One more wish… =-)

  • The ability to put your character in merc mode. This would make you follow around the target and protect them using the 2 skills set up for left and right click.

guys, you need to check out the ** Eastern Sun** D2 modifier

found here,

man, it’s like playing a totally different game and whole lotta fun.

the read me should be enough to get you started up.

What I did was copy a whole Diablo2 folder for it. (since I’m one of those D2 nerds that would dislike the realm wipe, invested many hours) I can play 1.09d from one shortcut and play the Eastern Sun version on another shortcut.

You guys should try it, it might be what 1.10 will look like. Tons more monsters per area, drops of many types, crafts, runewords and more. Check out that site’s features and see if it’s download worthy for you guys.

I’ve been having a bit of fun playing that ES version.

Oh and to all you guys that are leaving Accounts on Closed realms to collect dust, try and log on them here and there to keep them alive. Once per month per character sounds good enough to keep them alive. I haven’t been online for a long time, but am keeping my chars alive for the 1.10 patch (man, i hope it’s worth the wait). I get on about once a week for my main chars, and my mules get a once per month frequency. God, I’m such a D2 geek…Still my favorite game for about God knows how long.

Can I get a cite from within the last 6 months from Blizzard on this claim? Not from diabloii.net or some fan site. Not something that someone heard from someone they know at Blizzard.

If you are unhappy with the games so far, get Diablo II mods!

www.d2mods.com

There are mods which fills in the gaps of the Expanison, mods which alter gameplay utterly, mods which allow you to play evil characters, a Baldur’s Gate MOD, a Middle-Earth mod…

Well, considering that GFraizer is working at Blizzard, here’s are his words from a recent thread:

Copied from DiabloII.net’s front pages…but hey, it’s words from a Blizzard employee’s mouth.

On the Battle-net Forums, by Jason S., the Blizzard Forum moderator.

Quoth Eric_Balrog:

A lot of that sounds awfully unbalancing. If Mercs can do anything a player can, and you can give them specific orders, then suddenly your main character matters a lot less. Put too many capabilities on Charms, and you’ll be able to load up a character to almost unlimited power levels. Plus consider that someone’s bound to figure out a way to dupe those small +2 skills charms you want. You can fit, what, 48 of those in your inventory? I’d sure hate to meet a PKer Sorceress with level 99 charged bolt or thunder storm.

There are already cursed items, by the way. There’s a ring, for instance, with +100% (I think) to all resists, but it also continually drains life. And making the curses “secret” wouldn’t make any difference, because it’d take about 30 seconds for word to get out about what items to avoid.

I have a very simple question.

For the first time, I actually made it past Nightmare with a character. A nice level… 72? 73? Assassin.

I go to Hell.

WHAT? EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEk! HELP HELP! I am dying from ZOMBIES outside the rogue encampment!

How the “hell” is one supposed to play in hell? It was a total drag, I couldn’t go ten feet without getting seriously nailed. It wasn’t a challenge, it just made playing completely unfun for me.

So…what’s the big secret? How does one survive in Hell?

Get to lvl 80 first.

If you have good charms, rings, etc; then you cshould be ok in the 70’s. When I first started playing, I would always wait until lvl 80, because hell was just too damned hard. After 6 months of playing though, I was able to go in at earlier levels, because I had learned to anticipate the AI a bit better. (and I had great equipment)

Well, I was always of the understanding that the truly great equipment wasn’t available until Hell.

But I will take your advice. Must go level…

There’s good equipment to be found in nightmare, just not as good as in hell. The easiest characters to get to hell are zons, sorceresses, and barbs. But with the right build, all of the characters can do some major damage.

I usually decide what I want my character to specialize in before I start them, if you try to spread your skills out too far you end up with a character that can do many things… none of them well.
