The thing about Hell difficulty level is it really magnifies any mistakes you made in character developement. If you spent 2 many points in a skill that is ineffective this difficulty level will punish you for it…
Not really a part of the game I like… but still challenging at least.
My SP Sorc completed the first five quests of Act 1 Hell by level 60, using no better equipment than what I’d picked up. The problems arise for melee classes, because of the 50% global physical resist in Hell and the large number of phys-immunes it causes. This will correct in 1.10.
Footnote on 1.10 release date: Blizzard are a week into a test run and have found no bugs. If no new bugs appear, 1.10 will be ready for release in less than two weeks.
The Constricting Ring isn’t enabled on the realms. However, I’m very much in favor of cursed items like in the original. Made for fun variants.
Stoid, having never played an assassin past level 16, I can’t give you much help. But the good items are yet to be found later in Hell difficulty. Are you playing Single Player? If so, you should stop by the SP Forum, and ask for some advice, and possibly some starter items. Everyone there is very willing to help out, and most have items galore to donate.
Madawc, I’m current, 1.09d-wise, I was just wondering what other recipes were out there, since most of the ones I’d found seemed quite outdated and I know people have a few favorites they use, crafted or rune/gem-imbuing.
I’ll scour the links you included up there tonight or tomorrow and see if my curiousity is sated.
Sorry for the bad news but all those craft recipes, cube recipes and runewords that you probably saw are it… that’s right, that’s all of them, and they are outdated and weak.
I think that is the reason why all us hardcore D2 fans are looking forward to 1.10. There has to be new runewords, items, and hopefully some crafts but i doubt it.
If you want to enjoy D2 again, try the Eastern Sun mod. I think this mod is like playing a new version of the game. New items, more inventory and stash space, new runewords, new crafts, adjusted skills for all characters and more. I’ve been having fun playing the modifier. I just hope my regular 1.09d skills haven’t disappeared due to my playing the Eastern Sun mod so much.
And again, we all wait for the long-awaited 1.10 patch… How long has it been? i think it’s about 1.5years. And for all those that are doubting it is coming out, I think at www.battle.net, they said that it is in the Quality Assurance (or QA) stage of its development; which means that it should be coming to us soon. (in Blizzard time that means in about a year or less)
I wanted to give it a try last night, I really enjoyed the V&K mods for Hellfire, but I couldn’t make hide nor hair of the directions from the linked website. Could you run down how to install and play it? I already copied my DII folder, so just tell me what to do from there. The Eastern Sun version I found was the beta 7 version.
well i copied it to my D: drive so, i wouldnt get them mixed up. (my real d2 and ES versions that is).
First you need to get that zip file, unzip it, get that d2_patch.mpq thingy, from the zip. (i think that’s what it’s called) paste it in ur ESversion folder. You probably have a d2_patch.mpq for 1.09d and it’ll ask you if you want to replace it. Say yes.
After that, u need to make new shortcuts for the ES version. i think that part is explained in the Readme txt file. But i’ll try and explain. (even tho it’ll basically be a repetition of the readme file)
create a new shortcut using the d2.exe, right click that new shortcut and modify the properties.
Something like ur ESd2 version thing should be there like:
“D:\DiabloII\Diablo II.exe”
make it look like this
“D:\DiabloII\Diablo II.exe” -direct -txt
and that’ll get you to play the ES mod. I have no idea exactly what your problem is so try to specifically state where you think u are having problems. and I’m assuming you have some know-how with windows.
I’ll probably get a reply later tonight if you ask another question… or need more details.
Did I read that GFraizer quote right? Did they put out a 1.10 patch for sc? Man.
That game, by the way, disproves your theory for D2 Stinkpalm. 1.09 for sc was sooooo long in coming that even the hardest-core sc players had given up on debating about when it was coming and what it would contain. Then in a rush the news that it was actually coming and then the patch itself all came out in the space of a couple of weeks.
If they do release a patch for d2 that tightens up the game and cleans up the realm I might actually bother myself to go out and buy the expansion and start playing again.
Speaking of mods, there’s also the excellent Seven Lances, which was released late last year.
Unlike other mods, Seven Lances can be played online at a secure, closed server similar to Battle.net. This server is run by a member over at The Amazon Basin.
OK, finally got the ES mod working last night, they’ve really pumped the difficulty up! I started with a Mage, and the poor girl was wacking a boss skeleton and his minions with her little orb right outside the gates of the Rogue camp! Interesting how she starts without any spells at all, I had to get a level to get ice bolt just to hold them at bay! The Den of Evil had at least 10 boss monsters plus two evil urns, thank Og you can buy mana now! I haven’t even gotten to Blood Raven, and I’m already Lvl 9. A few question:
What do Manuscripts do?
What’s a Dragon Stone? I click it and it cycles through about 10 different objects, but what do I do with them?
Most important, can you play Multi with this mod ( well, from the menu I see you can, so) How? Do you use a 3rd party server (like the old Kali-dunno if that’s still around) or what?
All I’m saying is, those rules don’t apply to Blizzard. I will forever give them the benefit of the doubt because of the way they treated sc fans. They stuck with us when D2 came out, when the D2 expansion came out (and when those events wrecked the bnet servers), and even when they knew the popularity of sc was going to fall off a cliff when War3 came out. They kept upgrading the servers on bnet and doing support for bw literally for years after it came out.
So if they say there’s another D2 patch coming, I believe it.
auto-arrange potions into your belt! Nobody likes to click n’ drag scattered potions from the inventory to the belt - OVER and OVER again, when you’re dying repeatedly in a difficult moment…
I found (with my Bowazon, at least) that Act 1 Hell was actually worse than the other acts. It seemed to me like half the monsters were bosses and their minions, and half the bosses were physical immune. You need to get yourself a good elemental-damage weapon (how hard is it to get elemental katars?). Don’t bother trying for the best elemental suffixes; I’ve never seen them on anything but staves or wands. What I ended up doing was sticking five Orts into a socketed bow, but I guess you’d only have room for three. But don’t worry, the physical immune bosses are less common in the later acts (but then again, some areas have “naturally” phys-immune monsters: Just try to avoid those areas). Or were you having some other problem with Hell?
By the way, if you encounter a multi-shot lightning enchanted, don’t even bother trying. Just run past that guy, or re-start the game if it’s something you need to kill. Nobody can really handle MSLE.
Question re: ATMA- say, in theory, you safe off the text file and make a change. How do you “import” or access that info again once it’s been in *.txt form?
Just saving it back as *.d2s leaves a 12k file where the original was 3k and when I tried to open that one with ATMA, it gave me an error # 5.
