If I wasn’t stuck here at work I’d give you a hand. I’ve got a lvl 47 Druid, a lvl 39 Barb, a lvl 34 Assasin, a lvl 34 sorceress, all on USEast.
Well, where arer you? I can only help if I know the name of the game and if it’s on open B-net.
I’ll be on open BNet the rest of the night, going after Diablo.
Game: SDMB
Password: TM
I just went looking for that game, couldn’t find it-got “invalid game name”.
Are you trying East or West? I’m on East.
Oh. You said Open B-net. Sorry, I don’t have any characters on closed B-net.
I don’t have anyone on open anymore. I used to have a couple of kick ass characters but my comp blew up and they went with it.
Closed B-net-Characters you keep on one of the realms, like US East or US West
Open B-net-Characters you keep on your computer and can be played in single player mode. Open B-net is accesed thru the “Other Multiplayer” option.
I know that part but couldn’t figure out why you would need closed characters to join an open game. All my characters are open.
Doesn’t matter, it was getting late so my amazon stopped at the second waypoint. She’ll have to go against Diablo later. Went after Diablo with a sorc all weekend, just kept hitting with a level 8 static field. Necro has a bunch of points in both life tap and iron maiden so he probably won’t need much help. Would be nice if my amazon could use the Doomslinger, that’s one of the uniques with raised reqirements. She’ll have to wait a couple of levels.
The reward is actually just lots of experience; enough to make your character go up 4 levels. (I assume you mean attribute and skill points, respectively.)
I ended up playing my sorceress for about 15 straight hours Saturday night/Sunday. I was originally wrong about her level, she was level 32 not 34. She’s level 46 now. I got her through Baal on normal, then through act 1 through 4 on nightmare and the first 3 quests in act 5 before I quit. She’s a real butt-kicker.
I stopped playing on Open B-net because of all the hacks. My open Barb had two dimensional blades both doing like 150-200 points in damage apiece and someone just ** gave ** them to me. The only time I ever hacked a character was a level 99 Barbarian named Pussywillow, just to see how easy it was. ** Damned easy!!! **
Blizzard combats the character editors by altering the saved game formats every so often. AFIK, there’s only one editor that works with the expansion but is not compatible with the new saved game format in v1.09. Yes, it’s easy to edit the earlier versions, and I have done so. I don’t have the time to trade items on BNet so I used an editor to give my original characters complete sets and a couple of unique items. I also used the same editor to create a level25 mace-barb and had lots of fun wading thru Acts I and II, shattering all normal monsters in one shot.
Found a second editor that reportedly works with the expansion, but it also cannot read v1.09 saved games.
Judging from the number of times my characters had to go back to the fortress or were just plain killed, I didn’t really need help with Diablo after all. Paly and druid got the worst of it, paly was killed several times by that infernal Lightning Inferno; he was the first I sent after Diablo so I don’t remember exactly. My druid used nearly his entire portal tome to stock up on potions and was killed a few times. I sent my amazon and necro after Diablo last night, in separate games. Neither had much of a problem, between them they were killed about five times. Now I just have my sword-barb left to face Diablo, which will be tonight. Need to get through the River of Flame first, which will be no problem. He’s capable of doing nearly 200 points of damage with the leap attack.
I’m waiting for this week end to play. I’m going to get my sorc into hell level then maybe play a few cow level games to stock up on crap.
Anybody playing on USEast closed games this weekend, leave a message here and I’ll help anyone I can.
So, now that everyone’s had some time to kick some butt, what’s the verdict on the expansion? My semester just started up, so I don’t think I should get it anytime soon, but am wondering if I should still hold off on my imbues until I get the chance to get a grand matron bow for my bowazon (Munch rubs his hands gleefully).
I heard that the physical resistance in hell is near impossible, but that’s because Blizzard wants people to party. However, not having a great internet connection makes me play single player the majority of the time. Thoughts?
I love the expansion. The longer you hold off the imbues the better the imbue is as it is directly related to the character level having the imbue done. Also, in case you don’t know, if you find something really good but it’s damaged (ex damaged demonskin armor) when you imbue it, it repairs it.
My sorceress is the best char I’ve created so far. She does 1800 points damage with a level 19 meteor and has a level 6 frozen orb. The resistance to physical damage won’t affect her too badly (I hope). She is no good at all except in parties. I have a cable connection so I have no problem with that.
What Who_me? said, with an exception. Reportedly, an imbue from Charsi does not take into consideration the quality of the item (cracked, damaged, superior, etc.). The second imbue, the “personalize” reward from Anya for completing Q4A5 does take quality into account. Thus, it should be saved for a superior item.
Looks like Blizzard has been putting effort into making nightmare and hell easier for single players. From part one of the v1.09 info I provided earlier (comments from dibaloii.net bolded):
[ul]
[li]Improved drops for placed (super) Unique monsters such as Bishibosh, Rakanishu, et. al.[/li][li]Improved drops for certain quest monsters such as Blood Raven, The Countess, The Cow King, et. al.[/li]Experimenting to see who now drops what will be fun. Blizzard has told us that the Countess will have a very high chance to drop Runes, and this is still in, as far as we know. Most SuperUniques don’t have any special drops now, and in fact aren’t any better than random boss monsters, in most cases, but it sounds like this will change for the better.
[li]Duriel now always drops a Town Portal scroll in addition to his regular drop.[/li]Since you could get stuck down there if the opening to Tyrael didn’t go since you didn’t need the quest, or Tyrael wasn’t there since you’d already done the quest.
[li]Removed global Physical Resistance from Nightmare difficulty games.[/li]This was buggy, adding on top of other physical resistances (making two of the Ancient’s PI (Physical Immune) every time, among other problems. Should make Nightmare much easier over all, especially for characters just moving up to it, with mediocre equipment.
[li]Color coded monsters’ elemental/physical immunity info display. (For example, Fire Immune is printed in red).[/li]Be interesting to see this, and might help quick recognition, as the text can be hard/impossible to read against some backgrounds (River of Flame). How about MSLE being pink and flashing?
[li]Reduced the Resistance bonus for Magic Resistant Uniques (It was 75%; it is now 40%).[/li]“Magic Resistant” on monsters means they resist all types, magic (Bone, Berserk), cold, fire, lightning. “Magic Immune” means they are immune to just magic, like Bone spells and Berserk. Monsters with Spectral Hit used to get a 20% to all elemental bonus, it’s unknown if this is changed now also, but there’s no sign that it is.
[li]The Resistance penalty at higher difficulty levels no longer applies to Magic Resistance.[/li]Only fair, since you can’t raise your Magic Resistance with equipment. Should make Frenzied monsters and Bone Spirits less dangerous on NM and Hell.
[li]Updated the pop-up text to reflect adjusted monster attack and defense.[/li]This probably refers to monsters that are boosted above their base stats by auras or boss modifiers.
[li]Changed monster stats back to what they were before v1.08.[/li]Since hardly anyone played v1.07 D2X, since v1.08 was required on the Realms when the game shipped, this doesn’t mean much to many people. We’ll have to look into the changes.

All my “personalized” reward from Anya was was that my armor (which was what I had selected to have personalized) was named after my character. I got no changes in its properties.
