Continuing the tradition from the old Diablo 2 thread… holy Spam, I love this game! I know that a bunch of Dopers have D2, and I’m assuming that some of them - or hopefully a lot of them - have or will soon have the Expansion Set. So much new stuff… new weapons, enemies, abilities, enchantments, etc. etc.
So… who wants to get a D2 Expansion game going? I’ll most likely be in the game titled “SDMB”, with the password as “sdmb” (without the quotes). I’ve got a level 38 sorceress, and I’m about to beat Act 1 on Nightmare mode. Any takers?
Sorry, you’ll have to count Mrs. Tranq out… I’m hogging the internet-connected machine for the next couple of weeks: Got some projects coming up on deadline.
I just got my Druid up to level 23! Woohoo! Can’t wait until 24, though…
He’s currently specializing in Shapeshifting and Summoning (no Elemental stuff this time around). I haven’t decided whether to concentrate on Werewolf or Werebear form, though. The werewolf is good for mowing down groups of monsters, while the werebear is good for taking on big nasties (like, say, Duriel!). He went in (in werebear form) against Duriel with a full compliment (Rogue merc, 5 Ravens, 5 Spirit Wolves, Wolverine Heart spirit and the first corpse-eating vine); the Merc, the spirit and 4 ravens were still alive when Duriel went down.
I want D2 back…a friend of mine loaned it to me for about 3 months when he bought it and found out it couldnt run on his computer. (Lol) And of course, he has the expansion now, but his computer cant run IT because there’s not enough memory…unfortunately, since my friends dad bought the expansion, he’s not letting me borrow for fear I might break it… (There’s probably a rolling eyes smiley, but I have no idea how to make it)
My Lev. 27 Paladin and Lev. 26 Barbarian are itchin to take on Baal… If I still had it, I’d take you up on your offer, except 56k connection w/ Diablo II probably wouldn’t fly too well on Bnet.
You ain’t kidding. My coworker was playing on BNet West and he says that at one point there were so many stupid little pygmy people (you know, the ones from The Mummy Returns) that his 850 MHz system w/ a GeForce graphics card and a DSL connection was simply crawling.
Oh and the rolleyes smiley is ;rolleyes;, only with grown up colons instead of the semis.
Oh, BTW, you may need to add a few extra skills to your barb. My coworker (yeah, same guy) said that one of the new mods for enemies is ‘immune to physical’ meaning that you need some magic to take these guys out. His gf, with a lvl 60 barb, w/ none of the “magic” attacks, couldn’t do a damn thing against them. (No idea if magic weapons work or not. Probably.)
I have a couple chars in the mid to high 30’s. A sorc and a barb, but I havn’t played in a few months. Does anyone if they have made the servers any better since I was there? I played West and it was always f*ckin up.
I stopped playing with my barb cause I royally screwed up his skills, so I switched over to the paladin, who is much better. (Even though I put 1 or 2 points too many into Zeal…)
I’ll be doing the same thing as SPOOFE on USEast, try SDMB pass SDMB. Might not be there all the time, but I’ll make it every now and then and see who turns up.
Since I played an Assassin character in the Expansion Beta test, I know what skills to put where. Claw Mastery is always good, so is Burst of Speed. Don’t bother with any of the Blade Traps, those all suck. And most of the Martial Arts suck as well, with Dragon Flight being particularly useful in duels and Phoenix Strike being the all-purpose magic attack.
Wake of Inferno can be made to do a lot of damage, as well as Death Sentry (although I mostly use that when there are a lot of bodies around since it does Corpse Explosion). And don’t put more than one point into Shadow Warrior, as you won’t use it anymore once you get Shadow Master (Which kicks ass ataround level 4+).
I’ve heard rumblings about the new “Immune to Physical” monster addition. Those of you with it (the game, not the immunity, though if I were invulnerable I think I’d do things like step into old farm threshing machines for fun), how does it play out? Have the brutish ass-whomping single-player Barb types been screwed? What’s the deal?
Yeah, weapons with “Adds fire/cold/etc. damage” count as dealing magic damage. But ONLY that magic damage (in other words, the regular attack and the added magic attack are two separate thigns).
I think, sometimes, it can be a hassle. But only on the rare occasions when you get an enemy that is both immune to physical AND immune to magic.
Let me explain… normally, a unique monster can’t get that combination. However, in Hell mode, the Horadric Mummies (y’know, the tall guys with animal-head skulls, and breath poison clouds?) are ALWAYS immune to magic… even the normals. So when you get a unique that ALSO has “immune to physical”… well… the only thing we’ve found, in those cases, that hurts the enemy, are “thorn” effects (like Iron Maiden).
Additionally, the Ghost monsters are immune to physical in Hell mode, so the same thing can happen.
HOWEVER… when you have an enemy that only has one of those abilities, it forces the player to be diverse in his/her abilities. For instance, if you’re playing a Sorc, and decide to focus on Lightning attacks (you can get your Thunder Storm and Chain Lightning high enough so that it deals well over a thousand damage now), and you come across an enemy that’s immune to lightning, you’re screwed. So you also have to pump up your Fire and Ice abilities, as well, just in case you come across a dual-immunity enemy.
To clarify (and correct):
There are four types of damage that can be dealt: Magic, Physical, Poison and Elemental. Fire, Cold and Electricity count as Elemental damage, not Magic damage. Examples of skills which do Magic damage are those like the Necromancer’s Bone Spirit & Bone Spear, and the Barbarian skills of War Cry and Berserk.
When a monster has immunity to Magic, it refers specifically to Magic damage; it does not apply to Elemental or Poison damage. It would be very rare to encounter a Unique that would have immunity to all three types of Elemental damage (Bishbosh might be able to do it, since he starts off in Normal with Immunity to Fire; in Hell, he could acquire Immunity to Electricty and Cold as well). A Unique Zombie in Hell could possibly gain up to four immunities, since zombies start off with Immunity to Cold.
So, if you do run into a creature with immunity to Physical and Magic, a Barbarian is likely to be in deep trouble, since that’s about all a Barb can dish out, unless he’s got a weapon which can do Elemental and/or Poison damage as well. And then, only that portion of the damage will be dealt (also keep in mind that %damage increases from skills only apply to the Physical part, unless stated otherwise - so even if you’ve got an ungodly increase, the Elemental/Poison/Magic portion is not affected; this is where a Paladin with Vengeance has a definite advantage!).
