That happened to me when I tried to log into my account from a friends computer. Apparently, it detected that I was trying to log in from an unfamiliar IP, and that triggered an anti-piracy measure.
I didn’t have any issues with the password reset, though.
It was giving me that shit when I started flipping from Americas (which for some reason was my initial setting, I think it must have been that way for everybody) to Europe.
After a couple of flips, I realized there was an option to answer your security question “ingame” - the same one it asks for when you go to reset the password! Once I did that, it finally calmed down, I can now switch servers without the game freaking out.
You should run that zone with the Scoundrel ally some time if you haven’t already. He has some choice things to say about the layout (both of the battlements and the basement).
Well, I just got off the phone with a guy from Blizzard, and he was helpful and friendly and cleared everything up. It did take me an hour of waiting on hold, though.
The patch, specifically the massive repair price increase and massive drop in replay loot totally hosed my wizard.
His gear is too crappy to survive long enough in any area to make a profit. I could go back and grind for hours in act I or II hell, but that would take forever. In Act III or IV or anywhere in nightmare he takes too much damage to make money. The economy in the gold auction house seems to have collapsed. If you have a unique near the max DPS for that item and you can probably get some bids. Nothing else even gets bid on, even rares with better stats than many uniques.
Now, I was stupid and upgraded my blacksmith and gem guy before realizing that was a huge waste of money, so now I’m in a situation where I have no gold, crap gear, and just setting foot out of town effectively costs 20,000 gold.
I guess I have to start over.
This time I’m going to be a self-hating Nord that loves the empire and has a deathwish for Ulfric Stormcloak.
I’m not sure how setting foot out of town effectively costs you 20,000 gold if you have crap gear, since my Demon Hunter has good enough gear for A1 Inferno, and it only costs her a little more than 1000 per death. And even with as often as a Demon Hunter in Inferno dies (hint: We don’t have Diamond Skin or Energy Armor), she still ends up with a positive cash flow.
Also, most sales on the auction house are buyouts, not bids. Try setting buyouts for your items. And “rares with better stats than many uniques” doesn’t mean much, since most uniques suck.
I just wish Blizzard would bump up the price when selling items to vendors. Remember when you could still get 50k from an elite white back in D2? (Yeah, I know - the markets are completely different. But that was a lot of gold in D2 - and 438 gold in D3 is nothing.)
Decon your level 60 blues and sell the essences on the AH for 2k a pop. From a decent A1 farming run, I collect 30-40 of them and they sell within moments of listing.
Yeah, I’ve been wondering why they didn’t include the functionality from previous games of allowing you to drop a town portal wherever you wanted it, so if you died, you could port back to the fight. Probably because of the auto-portal to wherever you are in multiplayer games.
Nitpick: The cap in D2 was 35k, not 50k. But yeah, it’s kind of absurd that when you accidentally pick up a white item in Inferno, it’s worth 9 gold at most. People who find white items in their inventory, while they’re in town, will just drop them on the ground where they are rather than bothering to walk over to a vendor. Make them a hundred or so: That’s low enough that it wouldn’t really disrupt the economy, and folks still probably wouldn’t bother to pick them up, but they at least wouldn’t be an absolute insult.
I decon everything, but I’ll start selling the lvl60 stuff. And what’s the deal with the commodities market? The “last 10 sales” is a terrible indicator of price.
Except for level 60+ stuff (which turns into valuable Exquisite Essence) and really crap things that are only worth 50 GP or so to begin with, it’s almost always better to just vendor items. If you really want the essences, all of them short of Exquisite go for less than 100 GP each on the Auction House.
Got all ranty yesterday and came home to find that the gear I thought should be selling but hadn’t finally sold for about a net 200k. It was strange, I’d put most of it up multiple times over the past week, but yesterday 7 out of 10 of them wound up selling. People stocking up on Thursday for a weekend of dungeon crawling?
Still, I think the wizard may need to be retired, at least for now. I started a new barb and one of the first blues he picked up had 15% magic find. Which led to gloves with magic find, then other stuff with magic find, and now he’s getting awesome drops (well, awesome for level 15, but still).
It seems apt to resurrect the thread. I’m killing mindless dead things shambling after me. I stayed away from Diablo 3 for a bit because the naysaying brought me down. Man! Can’t believe I stayed away! I just got a 32 mass kill! This game, while short, rocks.
There’s still a couple of us still playing…mainly Chronos and myself. Been doing a DH in hardcore mode, up to level 30 now, trying to catch up to Chronos’ HC Monk who is at 37.
I am really trying hard to be careful though, but when the first Reflect Damage elite group shows up, I will probably die before I know it. Forgot to mention…1.07 is out for anyone else out there.
