Really? Does that work to the players advantage as well? Because if so all those Venom Hydra-centric Wizard builds may be in for a world of hurt when it inevitably gets nerfed/fixed.
I’m unaware if that affects hydra, but it’s pretty ridiculous that I can eat arcane beams but if I touch a molten I melt. This is only after the latest patch 1.03b. If they ever manage to fix that, I think you can gear yourself for act 3 reasonably well on some budget gear. Not enough to faceroll everything but enough to complete quests and content.
No, the guy listed all he bought. Although, for top gear, inflation is apparently 5-7% per day, so the cost is going to depend highly on when you buy things.
Yeah, I was noticing molten was destroying me. Good to know that’s not intended.
So it seems like they’ve seriously turned up the drop rate for blacksmith plans, or at least the low level ones; after finding a grand total of 3 up until today, I had four of them drop in one semi-clear of Act I.
They desperately need to turn up the drop rate on set items. I’ve got several hundred hours in and have never seen one. They should drop much more frequently especially since almost all of them suck for end game.
I haven’t seen one either, or had a friend seen one drop. Do they even drop? Or are they blacksmith only?
I have never seen plans for anything other than 2 levels of staff of herding.
Even low level items are insanely priced.
My ability and desire to play are waning fast.
As a long hour farmer I can verify they do drop, just never what I am looking for. I have gotten 3 pieces, all for different sets. The green stands out though I almost missed a monk fist green piece in a fire.
Set items currently suck, as do almost all legendaries. (There’s a few specific exceptions.) They plan to boost them in a future patch, supposedly.
In any case, the set drops are so rare that there’s basically no chance of finding a matching set for yourself.
I still have one green set item that I mentioned earlier, my oldest son has the other set item to complete the set (Chantodo’s), but he said he has better rares in those slots.
Will they boost the stats on these set items on the expansion, or will they introduce new set items that will be better? Maybe I should hang onto the set items until we find out.
First character to 60 in HC. Farmed a bit in Inferno. Felt nice.
Now begins the slog…
I found a monk fist weapon set item. It looked pretty craptastic.
Low level plans (4 affixes) drop not frequently, but not that uncommon. I have about 200 hours of play logged and I have found maybe, 8 plans? Only one was a 5 affix one, the rest were 4s. I believe the plans only drop in inferno, so much of that 200 hour play time was before that.
Weapons are almost useless to craft since only ilvl 62, but armor like gloves and bracers can be worthwhile.
I have act 2 on farm now - a run takes about 45 minutes and I can get 30-40 rares. Most of those I vendor since the AH has a 10 item sell limit and most things just do not sell anymore. Unless something has mainstat/vit for 100/80 and all res over 30, I vendor it. Something that just squeaks in I can put up on AH for 5-8k gold but really it’s not worth it most of the time. The feeling of having something actually sell provides a greater benefit than the gold itself. I like knowing that I sold something, no matter what the price. I think the gap between useable items (very cheap), and great items is growing. Great items are still very expensive, probably 5-10M each. Whereas you can get serviceable gear per item each under 50k I bet.
I’m anticipating the next patch for legendaries. Right now I’ve found about 5 and each has been salvaged for the materials to sell on AH. Sometimes you can buy legendaries on AH and salavage them and resell the materials for more. Go go arbitrage!
Let’s talk crafting. Specifically, is it worth it?
I trained my guy up past my own level with my first char. He can make a lot of blues, and a few rares with 4 or 5 mods. I’m guessing this is completely random and different accounts have certain items that the can craft good stuff?
Are there any items that you can craft that have 6 or 7 random mods?
If so (or even if you are capped at 5 mods) is it worth crafting items to use or sell? Of are you better off just killing and finding stuff?
No, it’s not worth it. I suppose at some point having a 6 affix plan will put an upper bound on the best equipment, but before then just look at the AH.
Anyone else try the Wizard invulnerability bug while it lasted? I think that was the most fun I have had with this game; just blasting through inferno, using whatever skills I wanted. The drops still sucked but it was nice to actually feel powerful and not have to run away constantly.
As a side note, I think they need to adjust the range of drop quality. It is silly when a level 63 item has 170 dps.
On that same side note I think they need to wipe all progress/gear from wizards who used that bug :dubious: I have fought my way on DH to act iv inferno and it was worth it, the exploiters, which there where many, lamed it.
Yeah, I wish I could play true single player, so I could cheat to my heart’s content. Don’t worry though, there was no loot to be found that I have not seen in act 1 and it all sucked.
They’ve said stats on current items are set and won’t be changed, so the smart move would be to sell before they upgrade them and the old models become worthless. At least, that’s what I would do if I had ever seen one…
It depends on how you like to play the game if it’s worth it to you. If you are fine utilizing the AH, then it probably isn’t worth it. If you like the mystery and the ‘unwrapping’ of an unknown item, then it could be kind of fun. The mods you get when you craft are while not necessarily truly random, they are not known and rolled when you craft it.
All people who have trained their smith have access to the same base items. The number of mods are fixed on those items. You can find plans to craft other items with varying mods, from 4 to 6. Once you find the plan, you can craft an unlimited number of that item with those mods, given you have the gold and materials. The list of which are available by default and which are by plan are on battle.net.

I love this game’s atmosphere especially when my hero says in a desperate voice “Our foes are endless.” Dialogues in the game are way more impressive than in D2. I like them more unlike many people.
