Got to 65 on my necro and tried the nightmare capstone dungeon, it was touch and go at times but welcome to torment mode!
Great job! We are still in Act III. We keep getting sidetracked by dungeons. I just got a Druid codex that has a 5% chance on hit to restore 100% resource. I know we are going to cap out at 50 before we finish the campaign (level 38 now) but oh well.
Meanwhile my Barb is puttering along in Tier I, Act I. The boss battles have been easier though. The bash/slash build is working better than it did in earlier levels.
I thought the writing on the campaign was fantastic
Minor nitpick
I didnt hear the word “Nephalim” once. I AM one arn’t I?? Also wish I could have joined Lilith but that would be more RPGEEE eeee then Diablo usually is.
I don’t know if we are supposed to be, the MC from D3 was and it was mentioned every two sentences but like you said at no point is it said in this game.
I don’t think the main character is meant to be in D4, no. From what I recall, the main character’s humanity is brought up multiple times and that’s a core part of the campaign story,
I finally got to WT3. That’s kind of sad considering I had a head start from getting the special deluxe version of the game (need my blood horse!) but my job and family keeps me busy.
I’d done it casually at the end of the campaign but stopped because I realized I didn’t have time at that moment to go all the way through. It was challenging but not impossible for the first bit of the dungeon that first attempt, just had to stay on my toes but I was slowly making my way through.
Since I usually play in small chunks, I had decided to bounce around the different zones and get my Renown up to Rank 3 to unlock all of the skill points before making another, serious stab at doing it. Plus, I fiddled a bit with my build and skills to improve myself in combat.
Then today I had time, so okay, after the tweaks and a few extra skill points let’s try it.
It was a cakewalk. No exaggeration. When I did the boss (or bosses) halfway through, I’d had a strategy for what order to kill them, and I burned down the first guy pretty quick. Then I started on the second guy but before I knew it there was only one guy left, and he melted. That seemed weird but okay.
I then got through to the end boss, which guides I read had talked about how you need to make sure to avoid his attacks, watch for certain phases, make sure to have some kind of temporary invulnerability skill, etc. One guide even said it was the hardest enemy you’d ever face in single player. Okay, let’s give it a try. I face-tanked him, didn’t even bother to dodge anything, and didn’t even have to use a potion. I had a couple of side quest bosses that felt harder. I’m starting to think that my blood and miasma corpse explosion build might be a bit OP.
Later tonight I did a world boss, one that in the past I used to die over and over to, and I think I maybe used a potion once. But in battle I fortify and self-heal so much that I keep myself topped off while I’m doing constant damage and debuffing.
I love my necromancer. ![]()
Those corpse explosion miasma pools make everything so dark you end up missing a lot of shit you shouldn’t stand on or near. It becomes an issue when that stuff can one shot you.
It can, yeah, but it hasn’t been a problem yet. I make corpses on hit (or a chance to on hit) and since the miasma is constantly hitting something, it makes corpses constantly. And they stack, so it slowly snowballs to the point where I’m spamming corpse explosion and they still stack up faster than I can explode them, and the boss’s health is just slipping down. And I also generate blood orbs to heal myself and generate Essence when the corpses are consumed.
It’s kind of ridiculous.
Nerf incoming!
LOL, it probably should be nerfed. ![]()
I’ll say this, the barbarian thing where you summon three allies is one hell of an upgrade for my toon. Absolute game changer.
How would you compare it to D3’s necromancer? I had a blast with that one.
We are in part V of the campaign. Druid/Sorcerer is a really nice combo because there are so many ways to make enemies vulnerable and immobilized. My husband just informed me that you don’t get any more skill points past level 50, which I didn’t know and OMG it’s so hard to choose. I’m trying to learn the Fortify mechanic so I’ve been boosting all those passives. It’s an interesting effect when you have health regeneration and healing on hit because unless you’re at 100% health already, you cease being fortified immediately. However Fortify still has value, it saved my ass for Andariel.
You do get 10 total points from the map renown, 2 per zone.
I played a bit of Necro in D3 but I just dabbled a bit. I played through the campaign with a monk. So I can’t really compare, I’m sorry to say.
I don’t know how rare they are but I just got the undead mount drop on my necro, I feel like a proper lord of the dead.
That rules, I haven’t found any mount drops yet. The only ones I have are from my preorder.
I’m 45 and just beat Andy so I’ll definitely hit 50 well before finishing the game. Bosses are tough in D4. Andy took me a bunch of tries to beat with my bone necro. The little chain dudes that pop up and grab you were extremely annoying but pretty well implemented.
Definitely feeling like resource generation needs to be buffed and/or resource costs for skills need to come down a bit. This is typically the main issue with elite and boss fights. Resource generation drops off a cliff when there is only one mob on the screen.
I found there are two routes you can go.
You can find an additional way to generate resources. As a Necro I went with Iron Maiden for a while, since if you buff it, it can generate 5 Essence per enemy affected, and costs no Essence. Later I switched over to Miasma Corpse Explosion, with the passives that generate corpses on damage and generate Essence on corpse consumption. There are also gear affixes that can generate Essence other ways; I had one for a while that gave Essence if you picked up a Blood Orb when your health was full.
You can also improve your basic. Some gear makes your basic faster, or more impactful, so you get more bang for your buck. You feel less like using the basic is “downtime”. Maybe even pick a different basic.
One thing I’ve learned in playing this game is that if you find a flaw in your build, some annoyance in the way your class plays, there is almost always a solution.
I’m at a point with my Necro where Essence generation is a piece of cake. It took a lot of experimentation and willingness to try different things. But now I love my character so much and I’m not struggling at all in World Tier III, even in things like nightmare dungeons and boss fights. (When I hit WT4 that might change.)
The good news is the developers did announce they are going to make it easier for certain classes to generate resource.
I’m gonna respec my Barb and if that doesn’t work I think I’m going to switch to Rogue. My husband started a solo Rogue and it looks pretty sweet.
