I’m enjoying the game, but not to far in. Too much adulting in my life right now. I’m not too worried about criticisms, it happens with every game. Its only been out for a few weeks, things will get tweaked and changed for a while. In a year everyone will look back and laugh.
Resource generation so far seems more like a puzzle to solve rather than something that needs buffed. Like @Atamasama I went with the more corpses → more explosions → more essence method, with the explosions leaving miasma pools that create more corpses. It works well in large packs, end bosses are bit more frustrating. The thing is at higher levels the end bosses in dungeons are a pushover and its the random elite packs that wreck you.
I respec’d to heavily focus on Berzerking and frenzy. Whirlwind generates fury, so that’s cool.
I’m not sure yet if it’s working but I do like the faster attack speed. The game keeps crashing during an Act II quest. The dungeon you go in to fight a three-headed wolf. This is a known bug and supposedly you can fix it by disabling cross-network play, but that didn’t work. So I’ve gotta figure that out now.
In Diablo 2 I played a WW barb. In 3 I played a HOTA barb. I’m doing the latter now but think I’ll probably respec. My finger actually hurts from all the clicking over the long weekend.
A couple random thoughts. I think it’s bizarre you can’t rerun the bosses. I just ran through every area in Fractured Peaks looking for statues and only found ~75% of them; 100%ing that without help feels ridiculous. I’m currently a bit skeptical about this holding my attention for 100+ hours like the previous versions. Can’t put my finger on why. Maybe it’s because the dungeons that people do rerun (as far as I understand the endgame) feel so small.
I played Diablo Immortal and joined a good clan there. A few of them became friends I chat with on Discord. I quit that game because I don’t have time for it and D4, plus I was tired of the “must do dailies or fall behind” in addition to all the P2W crap (and it’s really bad, you cannot be a top player without paying thousands of RL dollars to gamble on high end gems).
The clan also went to D4, and I’m chatting on Discord as I play, but I’m still essentially soloing the game. Last night, though, I teamed up with my one of my closest friends in the clan and we did a dungeon together. It was the first time doing that and it felt like a different game. The strategy of teaming with people you know and combining your abilities together changes everything. For me, this is what will keep me playing. Without it, I probably would get tired as the solo game gets stale.
You have to be done with Acts 1, 2, and 3, then you’ll get a horse. You get around so much faster. At this point, I’d cry if I had to walk everywhere again, I’m so used to my horse now.
I think they delayed getting the horse to make the campaign world feel bigger.
I’m lvl 63, finished a lvl 18 nightmare dungeon (so lvl 71 enemies) pretty easily, including a butcher kill so I thought I’d try the nightmare captsone. The boss is one shotting me. I’m doing ok damage, but I don’t think I can dodge long enough. Not sure if I’m going to stack some resist or level some more.
I’m noticing more bugs than I was expecting. Mostly graphics stuff, but also quests not loading properly and currently my character randomly says he has no inventory space. Which I do and am also not trying to pick anything up.
Forget resists, you want armor for survivability. Armor % on gear and skulls on jewelry. There is an aspect that bumps your armor as you are in combat, up to 50% on a perfect roll (it does build up, not straight to 50%), usually that alone will help a ton.
It’s really not, it helps very very little over all. Armor helps more, even for fire damage. They said they are working on fixing this for season 1 or 2, but that won’t help you now.
How on earth do I upgrade gems? I can upgrade the crude ones to the chipped ones but I can’t upgrade the chipped ones. Is there a level requirement or something?
