I felt a certain order to the universe when I noticed that this thread and the “Genital mutilation of young girls” thread are next to each other. I just hope people keep posting to both threads to keep them together.
I think it’s interesting that pro-circ (or at least anti-anti-circ) folks seem to so commonly assume the anti-circ crowd is entirely made up of circumcised men who are mad at their parents. First of all, my experience is that here in the U.S. it’s more mothers than anything. Secondly, what about the intact men who are horrified by the whole concept, because they actually know what they’d be losing? That describes me (and my two sons), and it’s almost got to be true of Russell Crowe, born and raised in a non-circumcising culture. Surely we’re not the only ones! I’ve got to assume most European, Asian, and Latin American men see this debate (if they’re aware of it at all) and just go “seriously, WTF?”.
To be fair, that’s my reaction when I see people going ape irate about the topic in general.

When my wife gives me a hand job, or when I masturbate by myself, the thing that really feels good is the foreskin sliding up and down the glans. Do you really not understand why someone would think that it should be up to the individual to decide if they want to have intact genitalia or if they want parts of them cut away, usually without anesthesia¹? I know why it upsets you. But I also am circumcised myself, and thus know the ire is way out of proportion to the supposed crime. It is, when done correctly, a harmless surgery. And it does actually have benefits.
You want to say it shouldn’t be done? Fine. But when you get all righteously indignant about it, I tune it out. Because I know it’s really not all that big a deal.
I also know anti-circ is tied in with some bad things, like trying to claim it’s the same as FGM, which has no benefits and does cause damage. It’s also commonly used as an MRA cry, about how women have rights but men don’t. And it’s often used by those who advocate religious bigotry, as evidence that a religion is barbaric and wrong.
And, while I’ve not yet seen it on this board, there are people who try to link it to rape, which is just insulting to rape victims. It’s just not.
Ultimately, I don’t care what you feel about this. If you want to advocate for it being an adult choice, have at it. But do not try to play it up as worse than it is, and definitely do NOT hijack every FGM topic to discuss it, making it all about you instead of the women actually suffering.
Oh, and don’t try to convince me that my life is somehow worse because I’ve been circumcised. Sorry, but it isn’t. I don’t need another thing to wish was different to decrease my net happiness. You will not convince me, no matter how much it bothers you personally.
