I honestly wish circumcised men could be left to feel it is NBD what was done to them (after all, it’s too late to change), while somehow simultaneously stopping the practice going forward. But that’s a pretty tough circle to square.
If some cultures had a routine practice of removing one of an infant’s eyes in infancy, you can bet that adults who had this done to them would insist that they can see just fine, that two eyes are redundant, that stereoscopic vision is overrated or even a myth (“I can see whether things are closer or farther away, too!”).
I did NOT imply he was mad with his parents. Just that if he had a complaint it should be taken to them, not us. And I was curious both if he had and how the conversation went.
(So sorry to bump up against you’re unfounded assumptions though! )
Anymore the anti-circ crowd sounds a lot like the anti-vax crowd. Whatever your feelings on infant circumcision, you might want to reconsider your approach.
(Hint: comics like “Foreskin Man” don’t help your cause.)
You don’t know if we would feel any better or worse for being uncirced, and you don’t know if you would feel any better or worse for being circed. All you have to bring to the table is-you don’t know.
Uh huh. If some culture had a routine practice of never bathing, you can bet that adults would insist that they weren’t germ-ridden and filthy and that those “unfortunate” enough to have their dirt removed were totally missing out on the glory of body lice.
See how easy this is to just make shit up to support your imaginary position?
As I mentioned before, there’s not a whole lot of distance between the two “citing” from nonsense websites with names like MoonMotherHealthMagic.org and StopCuttingBabyWieners.org while wildly over-reading into or misinterpreting any actual medical studies.
I’m not “het up because other people are choosing otherwise”. However, I don’t particularly care to be casually slandered by a pack of smug assholes who say that the default position for one’s manhood is the inferior one. Fuck that shit.
You wanna circumcise yourself? Great. You wanna circumcise your son? Whatever - I think it’s a mistake, but it doesn’t exactly rise to the level of a war crime or anything. But if you try to make us out like we’re the weirdos? Nope. I repeat - fuck that shit.
:dubious: Yeah, because being “anti-circ” as you term it is on the same level of reality-denial as anti-vax. Right. Fuck off back to your FGM thread, you cretinous twat.
I’m sure the anti-vaxxers stomp their feet and claim it’s nothing like being a flat-earther, too. If you don’t like the company you keep, find better company.
I suppose that’s true about any body part, then? Maybe we should be removing babies’ ears. Makes it easier to wear hats! Who are you to say whether that would be better or worse! :dubious:
Yet, if you look at any ranking of the world’s healthiest countries, there is very little circumcision in them. Not true about vaccinations. So much for your analogy.
Correlation/causation, etc. Come on, I thought Dopers were smarter than that
It’s also worth noting that 99.999999995% of the population of these countries aren’t embarrassing themselves on the internet with screeds about baby penises and links to CircumcisionsAreEvil.org quasi-cites. I’m not speaking of the general population of any nation, I’m speaking of the rabid anti-circ weirdos.
Those nations don’t need “rabid anti-circers”, because they already know better than to do something so barbaric.
As for correlation/causation, I was responding to a claim that being anti-circ was like being anti-vax. Do you think those world’s healthiest countries could stop vaccinating and remain at the top of the rankings? :dubious:
