Did any dopers ever meet in real life accidentally?

Bwuh? Why would anyone want to pit you? You seem so inoffensive to me! (why do I keep reaching for my LJ icons? That doesn’t work here! Of course then on LJ I reach for the smilies here. I can’t win.)

I ran into Eyebrows of Doom at an event set up by a social club of sorts here in NYC. I mentioned it on the boards months before and apparently she signed up but this was the first event we both signed up for at the same time.

Here’s the thread. Not too hard to see why some Dopers would avoid me IRL.

You’ve now had three Southern Californians inquire about you – I’m telling you, it’s a sign.

I fixed what you wrote!

Oh, that one.

cough If I could find the right guy, I’d totally consider doing that. Seriously. And it’s all YOUR* fault.

*okay, you and Harley Quinn. At least the way a friend of mine write her.

Yes. Moreover, I know that they know that I know.

zyzzyva and I run into each other all the time, unplanned. Of course, we live four blocks from each other and frequent the bar located two blocks from both of us.

But… do they know that you know that they know that you know…oh never mind.
Oh and I bump accidentally and non-accidentally into one doper regularly, but she’s my sister. I started posting here without telling her though; she meanwhile was lurking. One day she finally just asked me, with a fair amount of suspicion in her voice, “Are you posting on the SDMB?” I fessed up. So that part was accidental.

Well, it didn’t hurt that you asked me a question about something that I had just read about in the Pit.

I had had my suspicions because PastAllReason just sounded like you.

I stumbled across a lurker once at a previous job, I overheard her talking to a friend quoting part of a thread I had been reading just like 30 min earlier. I asked her if she knew Cecil Adams, she replied not formally, but I hang out at his place now and then.

I would buy this. Someone needs to make this!

3: Hi, Opal!

I went to a Dopefest once and recognized one of the attendees (who shall remain anonymous in this post) as having once been a server at a cafe I frequented. So we had at least had some interactions of the customer/server variety before realizing we were both Dopers.

Opal used to have it available. She made it for me (I have the first one) and put it up on her Cafe Press shop. At least she did several years ago.

My brother lurks here from time to time. I found out when we were arguing about some factoid or another and he said, “Yeah, well, Uncle Cecil says…” I said, “Wait. Whoa. You read the Straight Dope?” He said, “Yeah, and you post there.”

Well, two out of three ain’t bad, anyway…

Huh??

He’s self-deprecatingly stating that two of the three Southern Californians are indeed “very cool”, but that he’s not worthy of such praise.

He’s wrong of course. Except for the whole bowling thing. =^_^=

Thanks for the explanation, Sternvogel. I’m not always the most observant person.

Perhaps I have met Dopers, and I just don’t know it!
